Have you seen the build quality of those? Digital is IMHO fine when cables and connectors are well designed and engineered but the adaptor that I have that is similar/same does not fall into that category. Why don't you go rj45 and use a balun? Or get the speakerlink specs from m and see if you can replicatebthe audio signals of that.

I'm not quite sure what you are suggesting. I have to connect three 3.5mm female sockets to three RCA female sockets. Why on earth would I want to bring RJ45 and baluns into the mix?

Shouldn't it be stereo 3.5mm plugs?

Good question. The two channels of SPDIF are muxed on to the equivalent of a mono analogue RCA connector, but I don't know which parts of the stereo 3.5mm socket Shawn has wired to. I thought that mono jacks mix both channels of a stereo socket, but I could well be wrong.

Hi Shawn,
As this mod disables the standard analogue outputs anyway; looking at the photos would it not be possible to completely remove the 3.5mm sockets from the PCB and replace them with panel mounted RCAs on the chassis and then wire directly to them.
I guess the 4 back panel holes may need a little enlargement to fit the RCAs, but you would not have to drill the access hole in the PCB.
This would then make all this talk of adaptors and custom cables redundant.
Of course it might all just be too tight to do this; it can be difficult to get a sense of scale from just the photos.
Having hands on with this; do you think it would be possible?
Regards, Carl.

If you have a a short 75 ohm cable with a 75 ohm RCA plug on one end would it make any difference in the real world if the 2.5mm plug at the other end was not 75 ohms? I'm guessing that the 2.5mm jacks aren't 75 ohm either.

"I'm planning on using these connectors with a set of three blue Meridian cables."
I wouldn't use the adapters, just get 1/8" to RCA cables and you will be fine. The circuit sets the output impedance to 75 ohms.

When used for the analog outputs it is a stereo plug but when I rewire it for the digital outputs I just use tip (SPDIF) and sleeve (ground) so you would use a mono plug. Any standard mono 1/8" to RCA is wired properly for this.

I don't think they would fit as there isn't enough room for the nut, ground ring and so forth on the back side of the plugs.

I thought that mono jacks mix both channels of a stereo socket, but I could well be wrong. Shawn wired to the "tip" and common, so you can use a normal 3.5 mono connector.
