I think they already have Agreed, but there is always the used market, and prices are *really* low at the moment.

What a shame. It was only a short while ago that they were expanding and recruiting.

Indeed....let's hope the cuts aren't too deep and that they are able to ride it out. Let's hope that the Muse billionaires (as mentioned in the article) are down to their last million just yet.

That's a real shame. My heart goes out to those who will be affected, and as you mentioned Nick, I do hope the company can ride out the storm. Perhaps I'm missing something, but it strikes me that after the sub prime fiasco, much of the collapse in world stock markets has to be down to investors such as the Muse boys pulling their funds from businesses right left and centre.

growth has been half of that expected That is a really scary number though. Maybe the expectations for growth were unrealistic, and would not have been achieved even in more favourable economic conditions? Remember Arnon Milchan of Muse Consortium has claimed that Meridian could be a billion dollar business. Mark S

No wonder things have been delayed - its probably been the nice lady on reception having to design and build things along with having to deal with all of VK's phone calls.
Meridian owner since 1992 Prime & PSU, Focal Elear headphones, Roon (ROCK 8Gi5 NUC), Explorer 1 & 2, F80. 200/203, various Sonos (via Roon).

I am sure that M's HQ will be doing what they need to do. However, hi-end companies have gone belly-up when the world finances have been "OK", so, we'd have to assume half of anything isn't good news...core products or widgets.
I wonder how this will impact product strategy and release schedules? Would M tight or play as many new products as you could to try and stimulate business?

M have survived other turbulent economic periods and we should be positive about their future?

This is sad news but as a life long pessimist I can see a slightly optimistic side to this - although the growth is only half of what was expected (or hoped for...) it is still growth. So lets hope this is just a minor setback in the plans...
So maybe these cuts will not be too deep - but they will be very painful for those who get cut, those who remain and also for those that have to decide who goes.

I'm sure when the Muse boys invested they were expecting the growth, so that's why they invested! Half of what they were expecting is not good for anyone.
These people don't make billions of dollars by throwing their money away! Their pockets will only run so deep and with Meridian's attempt at expansion into different markets, its more market to lose. I'm sure a lot of money has been invested, which in turn means Meridian need to make more money to survive.
The good days are over. Everyone has expanded on the backs of false money, so now that money has gone all that expansion is over supply. Meridian seemed to expand right near the end of this period, so won't of reaped any return on their investment. If General Motors, the worlds biggest car maker needs bailing out or they will go under then no one is immune.
I only posted this topic on the 10th October and in less than a month Meridian are making redundancies. I know they survived before but that was before they had a large factory depending on large production numbers, with a large amount of staff and investors looking for more than a free projector for their investment.
Don't matter what we say, what will be will be.
I'd bet a months salary that we will see an end of Meridian in its current form.
Paul
