Congress has just voted down the $700B rescue package. Can I change my vote? eek

Consequently there` are no customs worries with them either.

That's very interesting. My loyalty has always been with Amazon for obvious reasons but I am growing increasingly weary of the length of time it takes for some orders to arrive once shipped... I may have to try Tower... I wonder if it is legal for them to operate this way?

I checked out Tower. I haven't bought anything yet, but the prices do seem pretty good.

Oh man, tell me about it.

What I don't get is why this whole mess has to impact the whole world.

I can see it impacting some, but geesh.

I really think it's really the first time we've had a true GLOBAL recession and the system just doesn`t know how to handle it.

It's not a global recession (yet) but a panic reaction of the stock market on some disturbing news. The vote shouldn't have gone through though, there needs to be some clear rules and thought put into this $700Billion band-aid.

What we don't need is something like peeing in the pants, warm at first but quickly uncomfortable and smelly in the long run. This is the US taxpayers money, they deserve to get it right. Until a proper bill is passed then the government will have to act on a case-by-case basis..

.... and the US stock market closed down over 775 points - worst single day EVER! But who cares about that, what about news on the Meridian HDMI box crazy

For those of us who keep their 'stereo fund' in the stock market, purchases will certainly be postponned. The market will come back, it always does - probably as soon as tomorrow, so purchases only postponned not cancelled.

It will return, but it could be a very very very long time.

It took Japan approx 10 years to dig itself out of similar mess.

My understanding is that Japan has not nearly recovered to their previous high yet.

I also understand that the underlying objective of the bailout is to restart the "monetary conveyor belt" to quote Paulson. This is how the oil money flowing to the Arabs returns to wall street and Chinese export money returns to Wall street with stock sales.

To quote the financil experts comments on MSN as I interpret them, the rescue is largely to protect the value of the Chinese and oil exporting countries investments in the US so that they will continue to accept US dollars for their goods.

Perhaps I am being simplistic or naive, but eventually the US will not have any remaining assets to "trade" for oil or goods.

I don't think that a global recession is imminent, it will be a global depression.

As long as the electricity stays on so i can listen to my Meridian.

Well that's one way to get off foreign oil.

Great summary, I wish Bush explained it at the public address that way.

George,

Now that you mention Bush, does the Republican party not sound more Orwelian everday with a new and bigger War on "fill in the blank"? Now let me try to recall Orwell - what was the purpose of the war and disaster propaganda?

I am a retired Canadian, but I am truly afraid of the financial future of the world and my ability to enjoy my remaining retirement.
