It's gotta be something is heating up in the DSP-33. A cold joint or power transistor in my experience are the two most common things that fail. Since it's biamped I doubt it's a power transistor (You'd only lose highs or lows). Since you lose everything it's probably on the digital board. If I recall the DAC is on the analog board (they REALLY do wait right to the end before switching to analog).
If you feel brave. If you can get it in a failing state, try using cooling spray gently. First try a very wide pattern covering everything. If it snaps back into shape you know it's temp related. If cooling fails to bring it back try a reboot (if that works it's probably an IC). Get it failing then try to narrow it down. Since it's so intermittent it may take a while. A heat gun can possibly get it back failing state quickly. Common sense applies on how much heat and how much cool and how fast to apply, it should not need too much in either direction since it's marginal now at room temp.

IT may not be relevant but on my M30's I have had both go dead due to a Thermister problem. (Older technology I know) Meridian knew what it was as soon as I related symptoms and fixed them easily. The first one, they sent me the part FOC and I did it myself. The second one, I sent in to be done: Lazy. It could be that simple? Good luck, Chris

VK,
I had the same problem with my M30's. One of them would shut down in a completely arbritary manner. Running time, ambient temp, it didn't matter. Sometimes it would run for a day or two and shut dowm, other times it would not come off standby. My local dealer diagnosed the problem right away and replaced a thermister. That fixed it.

Thats It Kswanson. I think it is a known problem and Temp will effect it. My Recent Repair was 60 inc return postage. Talk to them, It could be a DIY job for the competant. Good Luck, Chris

I'll have a chat with Mother and I hope it's something that simple. I'd be surprised if a dodgy thermistor could cause the problems I described at the beginning of the thread though.

It could intermittently cut out all sound. Isn't that basically your problem? It may be preamturely shutting things down as temp goes up. Or it could be a legit protection that something is running too hot.

I turn off my DSP33s at the mains when I have finished.
And no, although I lost sound completely last night, some of the hash I've experience from it is definitely not the speaker cutting out!
You won't be surprised to learn that the speaker functioned perfectly from switch on for a whole HD DVD tonight. There was a little glitch when changing channels on satellite after the movie had finished, but it was still ok. It's got to be a bad joint somewhere.

Sorry I had not gone back and read details again and forgot about digital hash. If you are getting random digial hash it's almost certainly not the thermistor. It sounds like some IC is just on the fritz. Or flakey power supply.

Oh, my installation of MConfig is trashed. As soon as the application starts and the main screen comes up, it exits without error! It must have been the MRC hang and the forced reboot.

Mine used to do something like that. It was because it was set to automatically check for updates on startup and was disconnected from the Internet at the time.
