Two more questions about the HDMI box if it is shown:

1) Does it contain FIFO or other de-jittering technology (or will this be handled in the processor)?

2) What is the audio latency from HDMI in to MHR out?

With Meridian's direct competitor (Linn) currently offering no less than four separate 'digital stream players' (ala Squeezebox), what is the likelihood that Meridian, at long last, will produce a similar hi-end product(s)?

Moreover, with the competition (Linn) offering a five-year guarantee on all its products in exchange for customers returning their product registration details, isn't about time that Meridian acted similarly?

Can the HDMax 421 and 121 handle/switch/forward HDMI 1.3a/b signals?

Is there FIFO buffering on the F80's digital input?
Is there any chance of enabling the F80's digital input to accept 96/24?
Is the F80 capable of outputting 96/24 (e.g. from the tuner)? If so, could this be done?
It would be great to be able to program which MSR+ sources the F80 responded to, in order to use it with a 562 (for instance).

personally, i hope Meridian wastes NO time in this market. the linn DS units are pure snake oil at those prices. gimme a break.

i've had M do free-of-charge repairs on my stuff that was well out of initial warranty. i've owned a ton of M kit and they've never left me hanging in that regard - at all.

doody.

I too have benefitted from FOC repairs, but unfortunately, I suspect this is changing. It would be good to know if there has been a policy change. Clearly, it affects the risk of buying out-of-warranty.

I experienced this in March of this year so what makes you think that this may have changed?

I too have had repairs FOC, I think that they do it to bolster the reputation of the brand, especialy when things go wrong that, perhaps, should never have gone wrong.
The word I am looking for is "Integrity"; I think Meridian is one of a small number of companies that really have this, what ever other grumbles we have about them, you cant fault their Integrity. IMHO

Cheers, Chris smile

Q: Would a multichannel 6 or 8 PCM channel USB 2.0 Audio driver be possible for the current '08 generation G68? (Video servers are becoming more common and this would allow them to fire up a G68 as complete platform for multichannel media).

Q: Would a G68/861 owner benefit soundwise upgrading DSP8k to CAT5?

Q: The "time-aligned" drivers/woofers in the DSP7200, would that be impossible to incorporate for the DSP8k in a software patch?

Q: Would incorporating apodizing filters benefit upsampling in all Meridian products?

Q: Would a subwoofer with dual drivers (aligned as the DSP8k sides) be beneficial?

Q: Could a High-End Audio/Video client work in the marketplace? (2k$-3k$) or are there too many choices out there making this not viable?

Q: How about meeting us early next year? (HH-day 2.0) smile

Crion

I can spare you some of the suspense! Your 4th question has a no-brainer answer. Orienting mirror imaged pairs of (sub)woofer drivers on opposite sides of the enclosure offers a considerable sonic benefit. The reaction forces that would normally induce vibration in the cabinet walls and rocking of the cabinet at high output levels are essentially eliminated. The equal opposing forces from the symmetrically arranged drivers cancels the vibrational forces out. In light of M adopting this resonance eliminating trick in the bass bins of the flagship DSP6k and subsequent DSP8k designs, I too wondered why the dual driver sub did not follow suit. I suspect that the D/M2500 and current D5500 subs have the drivers arranged as they do as a concession to suit the custom install crowd and their penchant for hidden in-wall recess installs to keep things pretty. Aesthetics uber all ain't my sonic ideal. However it would appear to be priority-one with many well healed home owners' custom theater/media room installs.

Happy Trails!

I also wonder why they don't offer a smaller dual driver in the 7200 range or for that matter 6200 Range. With perhaps 2 or 4 Side firing woofers. The 7200 seems like a terribly expensive speaker for not having that feature. Big jump from 6 Side Firing Drivers to 2 Front Firing.

almost certainly not. the 8K re-clocks everything it receives. it doesn't care how the bits get from your G6X to your 8Ks. if carrier pigeons could move the bits fast enough, they too would be an inaudible change. i believe the M literature has avoided language about the CAT5 being an improvement in any way other than convenience.

doody.
