All:

I've just heard from Bob and he is game for a Q+A Session at CEDIA. As such, this post will serve as the starter for the questions. Deadline for questions will be 11:59pm Eastern Daylight Savings Time on 8/31.

As always, I reserve the right to edit the questions. With respect to the HDMI segment I will be skipping questions as appropriate. So, if a solution is announced, questions about when etc won't be asked.

Keep it polite and civil -- questions along the lines of "Solution X sucks, why aren't you using solution Y?" will be edited for politeness.

That's about it, and honestly I have not yet scheduled a time with Bob just yet -- and I have a tighter than usual schedule as I won't be at the show on Sunday.

With that said. Two posts from here the questions may begin. The next post will be a marker for the final list of questions asked.

George, is it possible to give me Mod/Admin privileges for this one topic?

Thanks all.

1) What solution is used for the M810's Video processing? Is the video processor going to become an independent product to use with alternative projectors?

Assuming HDMI is released as a standalone box with MHR to the processor:
2) Is there a timeline for upgrades to 861v4 to support discrete 7.1 to allow for soundtracks available as 7.1?

3) Are there future plans to add a direct HDMI input to the 861?

4) How about G6x processor owners?

DSP in general:
5) Are there plans to introduce the apodizing filters into existing Meridian Audio processors.

That's it, I don't want to hog up all the good questions...

Best,

John:

As far upgrades to the 861 are concerned please add the following:

-- What is the difference between V4, V5 and V6?

-- Will the upgrades be field upgrades performed by the local M dealer or will the unit have to be shipped to M?

As far as Blu-Ray is concerned:

-- What, if any, is the time horizon?

-- What, if any, future upgrades will be available for the 800 given that it has a second drive bay?

As always, thanks so much.

@JK - Thanks as always for putting this together. I'm pretty certain (unfortunately) that admin/mod privileges are on a per sub-forum basis.

My questions:

- How does Meridian intend the USB input in the new G68AXD and XXD variants to be used? Is the USB input limited to 16/44?

- Will a USB for optical input card swap be offered for existing G68 users?

- 861 USB card?

- How does M approach the development of DSP speaker firmware changes (like the fairly recent bass crossover change)? Do you listen to the speaker and think you can make it better or do you hit upon a new code appraoch and decide to test it out?

- As the "master of digital", does Meridian aspire to making a digital-in, digital-out, iPod dock? Being subject to the mercy of the iPod's DACs surely compromises highest fidelity.

- Hiker Day II? M were "thinking February/March 2008" and were planning to "announce it around the year end [2007]".

- More interaction with the forum PLEASE.

- Can (non-confidential) technical info sheets (PDFs) be made available? e.g. Diagnostic codes, etc.

- Will the 568.2 v2.5 beta firmware ever be made official?

- Will the 568.2 v2.5 beta firmware get a fix for the lipsync/MHR-breaking bug that Bob was concerned about when asked in the CEDIA 2006 Q&A session?

- How long might owners of recently replaced products - G61 (not G61R), G91, G98 - expect software updates? Even recently, whilst dealers unloaded their demo stock, the main Meridian website made no mention of the G61R, G92 and G96 replacements. Even now, there is no mention of the G61R and there are plenty of references in the web brochure to the replaced products.

- Can Bob elaborate on why DVD-A support was dropped. There have been more than small hints that it was a part supply issue.

- Can M commit to supporting DVD-A with the 800?

- Does John Bamford still work at Meridian?

- Can DSP8000 owners expect a SpeakerLink upgrade?

Thats will help a lot with room modes
That feature have to be also integraded in the roomcorrection,
but start asap without first-
PLEASE i need it

2)Direct track access with DVDAs without display (like tv) necassary

3)Upgrade for apodize filter for 8k and 861/800

Q: Could Meridian comment on the G68 Optical Input firmware change and the general problem some folks have with Pops,Clicks,Slow Locks, and Hangs from reasonably quality sources (like a SlimDevices Transport with ripped DTS CD's that are Legal). The problem is more commonly on Sat/Cab TV Boxes (e.g. SKY). But even with Poor Digital Source enabled problems persist. While other processors in the industry (e.g. Denon) DON'T have these issues with like sources.

A little more on the M thought process for Bluray:

1. $500 spinners are good enough so we won't bother,
2. G series solution more than good enough for video, and/or
3. Remember that second bay in 800?

i would also be keen to know if 861 will ever be able to habdle more than 8 analog outputs. I use side and rear channels, but would be interested in multiple sub outputs as well.

Thx john!
