Hey Jerry,

I have been watching the used marketplace for both the DSP6kC and the DSP5k5HC. I've almost pulled the trigger a few times on eBay 96/24 5k5HCs but this niggling little voice in my head keeps sayin', "Hold out for the 6kC, its what you really want..." I think that ultimately the barely repressed hairshirt audio nerd in me will win out over the videophile and it'll be a new AT screen along with the matched vertical center. Unfortunately the only used 6kCs that have been around in the past year were a too-far-away dealer selling one well above market value and an eBay example that wasn't 96/24. Patience is a virtue I'm told... smile

Happy Trails!

Here are some pics from my setup. I'm still trying to figure out an elegant solution for all the wiring. It is hard for me to do anything since I live in an apartment.

I'd post mine, but I may get shot for sticking it in the MDF cabinet that came with my Sony CRT TV! (Temporary solution; even as a lab coat wearing cynic, I don't like all those electrons being accelerated and rapidly decelerated within inches of the G68).

I'm also drooling at the 12" IWC, Nick - I'd love one that said Ingenieur at the bottom!

I originally bought the horizontal center because I had things arranged differently in my room (i.e., my system used to be where the couch is now) and the center was actually below the TV. For some reason I always thought a vertical center would be too tall and I would have to be looking up at the TV. And quite honestly, before I had my Meridian system, the idea of vertical center was somewhat foreign to me. So I purchased what I have always thought was right and that is the center channel should be horizontal. I really didn't get educated until I joined this forum. Believe me, I look it every day and think, "man I wish I had a vertical center channel speaker."

That said, the sound is way better now than when I had it below the TV. With the exception of DVD-A/SACD, I listen to all my music in Stereo or Direct mode and the imaging is phenomenal.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

ultima_gtr, I searched for months for the IWC clock. I couldn't find it in any dealer shops and I finally found it on eBay. Next to Meridian, it is my favorite piece in the room. Watches are another hobby of mine. I have an IWC Flieger Chronograph. The Ingenieur collection is very nice.

Hey Nick,

I may have a suggestion which could easily/cheaply offer further sonic improvement. Based on the photographic evidence you've provided, I'm guesstimating that the absorbent room treatments you have scattered across your back wall are only a couple inches thick. They are made of fiberglass, mineral wool, or recycled cotton I assume? If you double or even triple the absorbent material thickness to about 6" just on the 2'x 4' area immediately behind the listening area, your absorber will effectively reach much further down, right into the midrange. With your ears that close to the reflective surface behind, The broader band the absorption, the better. We want to damp those early reflections out of existence completely over as wide a frequency range possible (not just the high frequencies). Doing so will pay further dividends in the spaciousness of the soundstage and clarity of the stereo image.

Happy Trails!

Thanks for the suggestion. You are correct, the panels are only two inches thick. I am actually in the process of looking at new panels with better designs. So I will definitely look at some thicker panels.

Neil,

I'd buy that for a dollar! (quote from the original Robocop movie for the uninitiated)

Is that a mighty stack of Naim and Niamframes?

Cheers

So your mount started life as a typical Target-style turntable wall shelf and then was modded? I suspected that might be the case but the work looked so clean that I wasn't sure. Custom Design UK would appear to be a very professional shop. Very cool.

The Draper Aeromount our PD Action One hangs from has nearly a 3' extension. It tends to wag around in pendulum-like fashion whenever somebody tromps across the springy suspended floor above. Not a lot and it always returns to proper alignment but its bothersome. My 11' ceiling height and the construction of our 100+ year old building are a bit of a curse in this regard. For the time being I'm knackered but If I do end up replacing our current wall mounted screen with a motorized AT screen 5 or 6 feet further into the room, then I'd be able to rear-wall mount my PJ in similar fashion.

Happy Trails!
