it has to do with the Gennum VXP chipset and the word is the Radiance cannot do it either for similar reasons. he's selling me one when its resolved so its in his interest to let me know when it is.... Sorry for being a pedant, but these are contradictory statements! I'm still pretty certain that they are only about to start, or have *just* started the work, so I'm not sure where a known limitation with the VXP chipset comes in, particularly when the VXP is only used for de-interlacing and NR.

Whats contradictory? He knows I am otherwise thrilled with my CII and that my big issue is simply its inability to maintain cadence lock when doing 24/48 hz. Now the limitation I mention is in the VXP in the CII. Is it possible there is an updated VXP that is in the R? Maybe. Keep in mind these are casual conversations. But his point was back then (months ago) and right now is the R cannot do the 24hz deal due to its inability to hold cadence. The implication is its the same issue but I don't KNOW.

Ah ok, there may be a bit of chinese whispers going on here.
Most certainly the Radiance *cannot* do this yet, but at the moment, this is 100% expected and not a limitation of the Gennum. The reason is quite simply that Lumagen has not programmed it to do so! The Gennum has not been told to output 24p from 60i and the genlock feature has not been coded. If you select a 24p output with a 60i film input, it's going to look awful.
The Radiance "production" software is incomplete in this regard and, given I've had one for over a year, I'm a little pxssed. They say the work will be done in about a month though.
Incidentally, the Radiance uses the newer GF9450 VXP chip; the C2 uses the GF9350.
Cheers, Joel

Thanks Joel- I think thats it then. I am looking forward to upgrading to the R but for me- Ive become so accustomed to 24 fps that its a make or break and since the CII is pretty darn good in all other respects Im just waiting for the proof to be in the pudding. Everyone says the R is really terrific, which it should be of course so I am looking forward to it.
Getting back to the 810 though, I think its application is limited because where it really is head and shoulders above the competition is the pixel density and light output and that means a really large screen. Speaking of the competition, I don't know if Plannar's acquisition of Runco late last year means their quality has changed or not. Any scuttlebutt?

The resolution is the only interesting thing about this projector. And even that is not unique. But what I think is much more interesting is the Meridian video processing. Not that I want inter frame interpolation, but at least Meridian are trying something new here... I wonder how much the processor costs and what other bells and whistles it has? Mark

I had another look at the video on this again. I think the processor may have the "C42" moniker (rather than the "C62" that I speculated earlier in this thread).

Press release is (kind of) go: http://media.Meridian-audio.com/press/810-release+renders.zip Product rendering definitely looks C series for the processor but is given the 810 number (or Meridian 810 Reference Video Scalar to give its full title). Guess it's being aimed at CI or cupboard hiding markets. At $185,000 it's not cheap, though includes a choice of 4 lens lengths and the (2.35) anamorphic motorised lens adaptor.

It was suggested previously that CEDIA would reveal other projectors (Projection Design?) that would match or come close to the M810 on performance but at much less cost...
Not having had the chance to carry out an in-depth review of all the exhibitors' announcements/exhibits, was there anything there, after all, to run the M810 close?

The JVC 4k Projector (which is the Projector that Meridian rebadge) received very favourable reports at Cedia, (which to be fair, is hardly the ideal place to be judging anything)
Not sure where Meridian's Scaler is originating, even though they (and JVC) have tended to use DVDO's / Anchor Bay Scalers in the past. Meridian are still adding value by Hand Selecting the best performing projectors and then carrying out the William Phelps Comprehensive Calibration. Worth a >$100k Premium over the JVC???? For the individual user to decide
Sony were privately demoing their 4k Projector. SIM2 were demoing their Single and Stacked HT5000 (3-Chip 1080p) Arrangements with New Lamps and DC4 Chips to again very favourable reviews
Projection Design were demoing a number of new Products and the Titan Reference was also mentioned very favourably by several people
Wolf Cinema 3-Chip DLP's were also highly reviewed at the show and seem to have a lot of flexibility built in to the units (2.35 Lenses, Multiple AR up to 2.67 etc)
As always with these kind of items, a personal demo is the best way to go.

Meridian made no secret of the firm they worked with for the guts of the scaler- I forget the name though- I am sure its in one of the articles. The Meridian is very interesting. I heard the new SIM2s looked great and are a solid deal for money. Wolf is partly Jim Burns who I remember from years ago and seemed like a really solid guy so I am curious about them. I also how Runco will do now that they were bought by Planar.
