The local dealer, Definitive Audio, held its yearly home theater event. Meridian was a big showcase. They showed their new ultra-high end projector the M810. It's a 4000 x 2400 pixel DILA based engine. JVC makes the engine but Meridian has done a lot of work on the electronics.
They had this projector set up on a 16ft wide 2.35 screen. It was, without hesitation, the best projected picture I have ever seen (and I've seen some incredible rigs and high end cinemas). Wow. The detail, the contrast, the smoothness...all incredible. I can't say enough about this projector - just incredible. I can't wait until they can trickle down this technology from the M810 @ $185K to a $15K package. Perhaps in 5yrs or so. Would be worth the wait. Time to start looking for spare change in the couch...
It was hooked to a Meridian developed scaler / processor that they didn't go into much detail about. But clearly, they have been flexing their video chops with this one. They have hit a performance home run (with the bases loaded). Just wish it wasn't the price of a house.
If you get a chance to see this thing in person, don't hesitate. It's absolutely amazing.

One hundred and eighty-five thousand dollars. One hundred thousand pounds. Meridian's accelerating pricing is leaving me so far behind that I can't even imagine what its dust trails look like any longer. I'm beginning to understand what they mean when they say poverty is relative.
I'd be curious to know what JVC's plain vanilla version would cost?

In another thread we have been discussing (with Meridian Marketing's help)the issue of better distributors with a wide range of flagship products on demonstration.
I wonder how many would like to fund one of these projectors?
Would Definitive put one in stock?
Meridian's strategy (and there is nothing wrong with it) seems to be to move the top end very upmarket where price is irrelevant and to get ther F80/AD88 cash cows out widely in the lower end. Hmmm...

Hmmm... As I understand things this projector might be a little hard to stoke as each projector is custom built for the specific environment/room in which it will be used...this is, at least to me, a prjector for those who care nothing about price and just to say they have the most expensive which OFTEN menas that a demo is not needed as the kool-aid "...trhe CI said it is the best so I told him to slam it in..."
Audio: Triad Monitor Golds, Surround Golds, Silver Subwoofers; Procella P-18 Subwoofer; QSC DCA 16622s, 1644, 3422, BASIS 922uz; ADA MACH IV B Other: APC S-15s; Crestron Sources and Video: Ran out of characters .....................

To me, this type of statement is only fair if we acknowledge that there are a MULTITUDE of Denon / Yamaha / Pioneer / Sony owners out there who say Exactly the same thing about the people on this Forum, i.e. that we buy based on Brand Name and don't even bother to listen before we buy, as we are only interested in the Brand and the alleged Kudos that comes from owning it Are there people who rely completely on the recommendation of the CI??? Absolutely Yes, but at all levels, from the F80 on up. However, to pretend that All (or even the Majority) of those who buy a $185k Projector system, decide to throw away their hard earned dollars just based on a CI recommendation, is hypocritical at best. Many of these people are as interested in Performance as many on this board, and will go to what we may consider to be extremes to achieve it. In much the same way that many people think that a $15k Processor is completely insane

I happen to be in Seattle on business and was told about this Definitive Home Theater event. I went last night. I think I counted 8 demo rooms and some with systems I was interested to see having read but never heard (all a let down to an 8k owner). Meridian had the top two demonstrations. In one there was G system with 3100s and a projector called MF10?? Sound and picture was excellent and seemed very popular with visitors. Nice surprise to see Bob there with this new 810 video system in the big room! The sound was really good using 6 DSP7200s with a 5500 centre driven from 861. ricktu is right, the picture was amazing and the best I have ever seen. It sounded like it has a lot of Meridian work in the projector itself and the 10 megapixel scaler. The image on the 14 foot screen was completely outstanding, bright and detailed with no artefacts I could see. I had hoped to hear 808.2 but it was just a home theater event. Meridian seem to be pushing performance as hard as ever.

It's a cryogenic quantum sub-tachyon cable (custom aligned to local ley-lines); that's what makes up the price. :-)
Seriously, I love reading threads like this and finding myself agreeing with both points of view. Good work, gents!

Most people see my HT and think it's amazing, and I haven't even crossed the US100K barrier including room. Then again, US$100K is only about 5 quid and about 8 Euros

John E. Johnson. Jr., has an entry on his Secrets blog about this event and projector, including a video interview with Bob Stuart about the 810. http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/blog/...nt-in-seattle/

No projector, IMO, is worth paying $185K for these days - that's insane. Digital technology is moving fast - if Meridian has this projector now, another company will have similar tech at a fraction of the price soon enough. In the meantime you will already get >95% of the way for there for a fraction of the price.
And if people are spending that amount as a fraction of the cost of the room then they are spending way too much on the room... There's simply no need.
Crazy.
