Just my '2 cents' - I don't think it is worth going SDI anymore. I had an SDI modified Denon DVD player passing 480i to my original Lumagen HDQ. When I upgraded to the Radiance (which most annoyongly did not have SDI in) I went out and bought the Oppo 980 so that I could send 480i over HDMI. I think that 480i over HDMI is just as good as 480i over SDI, and the Oppo player is less expensive than the SDI mod.

I did spend some time and money exploring the various SDI-to-HDMI adapters, and althought the Lumagen one may perform better, I was not happy with any of the ones I tried. Plus, again, the Oppo player is almost certain to be cheaper than the Lumagen SDI converter. IMO, SDI has had its day!

I think you're right Simon. If the SDI->HDMI converter came in at, say 100/$200, then it might be a more cost effective route. Having said that, if you are already committed to a VP which can handle SDI (natively or with a converter), then modding the 800v3 does make sense if you want to stay with a single player; and it's one hell of a lot cheaper than upgrading to the v4.

Slightly off-topic, I know, but I must be the biggest dope in the world because I still cannot get 1080p24 output from Radiance to work with my Sony VW200 projector. Got so sick of wasting time trying to get it to work that I gave up (of course at 1080p60 the picture is still superb). VK, did you have any synch problems with your setup. Curious thing is that my Bluray player set for 1080p24 directly to my Pj works fine! Ugh!

That is very interesting. I actually sold my Samsung last month (along with the 15 or so HDDVDs, figuring they would become worthless eventually, so might as well get something for them) and reverted back to my original Sony BPD1 Bluray player, but I have not retried 1080p24 with the new/old combination. May be worth a revisit. Thx for the tip.

Need to update my sig!

I have P24 working to my HD-100 without problems. Only for the HD-DVD player i have put the edid to p23,98 only. The PS3 works ok on the auto setting.

I have also a 800 with SDI, but not really miss the fact i cannot connect it up any more via SDI. I hardly play DVD's since i have much HD content i rather watch.
