Indeed. And if you "only" have a 5.1 setup, 7.1 is pretty useless too.

Its not "bashing" or "off topic hatin", its discussing the rationale, from the M point of view, as to whether they can justify the cost of adding 7.1 inputs to a legacy range (if it can not be done easily by means of a software change) when there is very little out there that can take full benefit. It is the very reason why we did not get 6.1 or ES - the cost of the update or license did not justify the limited library available.

It is all conjecture at the moment. We don't know if this box exists and if it does, what form and functionality it has. Let alone knowing how much it could cost of shoehorning 7.1 inputs to a range of kit that is over 4 years old.

I can quite easily see M taking the decision that if the public want to use more inputs that the processor was originally designed to have, then it would not be unreasonable for them to change the processor to take advantage of advances in formats that have happened in the last four years or so.

Wouldn't it be nice if Meridian gave us something that was not 2 years behind?
I think Meridian need to start doing something or they will be so far behind that they will become a thing of the past.

Please add me to the 'if the price & spec is right' chicken-list.

Behind whom exactly????????????????

Pioneer, Sony, Yamaha, Onkyo / Integra and possibly Denon???? Not even Marantz offers a Processor with HD Audio Codecs yet, and certainly very few, if any of the "High End" companies do

As for being 2 years behind, they are certainly not behind when it comes to things like CD and DVD-A Music Processing, MRC and various Soundfield options.

Certainly Meridian's "dragging of heels" on Movie HD Audio Processing has been FRUSTRATING, but a little perspective can go a long way, and misleading Blanket statements don't help

Actually Lexicon has had an HDMI solution for over a year. Not sure about any decoding. It is overdue but I suspect it had to do with getting MHR approved. Even if Meridian did it internally in a 861V5 2 years ago they still needed MHR approved because of there value DSP speaker products.

This is gonna be one hell an order. Meridian might as well skip shipping them to GA and go straight to Vinces.

Vince is this what you signed up for smile

Joel,
I noticed the part about North America, but I hope Ron will help me out (again!) if the need is there ... any reason why this offer would only apply to North American Meridian owners?

All I will say is that in the UK, at least, Meridian gets rather touchy about dealer discounts and dealers stomping on others' turf. It will be quite obvious what is going on. If Meridian is ok with this, then fine, but I'm not so sure that there won't be trouble, particularly if we try the same thing in the UK.
