Have you disabled any firewall/virus apps you might have. They could be blocking.
Also, as George says, check the port works at all would be a good thing. It's likely to be something straight fwd....this is not usually a showstopper task at all.
Rgds, Nick

By the way I would not rule out borrowing your friends IBM Laptop as tool to sorting out your computer, if it is indeed a computer problem. But if the IBM does work, don't conclude it's all "dells" that don't work and that you can't get your dell working.

It sounds like the M app is looking at comm ports 1 to 4 and you USB/serial converter has chosen a port above this range - which is normally the case. Hopefully it will simply be a matter of in the Windows device manager of simply changing the comm port in the windows device manager to be an unused comm port in the range 1 to 4 and setting the M application to match. Its a fairly fundamental piece of information to know what comm port the USB/serial converter has assigned itself to.

I use my Toshiba notebook with a USB to serial cable without problems. I don't know if it's been mentioned but check the baud rate. 9600 is normally a safe bet. As Ian mentions above, configure the port number and baud rate through device manager. You will need to reboot the notebook after adjusting the settings.

After a hectic week and now finding the time to once again confront this issue, my apologies for the delayed response. I have outstanding news. George's question regarding the cable being a NULL cable was a thorn in my side all week. Well, the so called expert sold me, you got it , the wrong cable. Purchased the correct cable and now I am one happy camper. All is working well. Greg

Unit is operating and sounding wonderful (am contemplating/seeking out a .2mm). I do wish to ask; when I select the source DVD, the next item displayed is Trifield, should the unit be displaying Digital and not Trifield, being that the source selected is DVD? Thank you; Greg

I forget the details on the 568.1 but it depends a lot on what is currently being sent to the 568, who is doing the decoding and what default format you set for different sources and formats.
