Since there is interest in the Oppos I am in the process of revising that transceiver card to make it more suitable for the 3x S/PDIF output functionality, while keeping the other functions too. Those changes includes buffering the clocks/data lines and allow for channel mapping inversions as needed in the 970 and maybe others.

For those that were interested in this my new card with the channel inversions and buffering came in last week. I have one running in an Oppo 980 now. The 980 does not feed the DACs at a reduced level (like the 970 which was at about -20dB) and it also did not need the channel inversion. When you play back SACD it converts DSD to PCM at 88.2kHz.

All the audio and video processing is carried out in one chip which also includes the HDMI transmitter. For those that don't know on HDMI the audio bandwidth available is tied to the video bandwidth that is available. You can't carry 6 channels of 96/24 over 480i on HDMI, it needs to be 720p or higher. On 480i you can only carry 6 channles of 48/24. Because the Oppo does all this processing in a single chip this limitation also applies to what it feeds its DACs. If you have the video output set to 480i it feeds the DACs at 48Khz max. If you set the video output to 720p then you get 96kHz to the DACs.
