Well you either stick with just two 3x SPDIF equipped players or you could put a Component Video switch box in front of one of the IE42 card's 3x SPDIF configured inputs. I'm not sure how seriously the additional connections would affect jitter though. There will be some degradation for sure. Hmmm... I wonder why the the optional VS50 3 input Component Video switching card for the 861 couldn't be used in this fashion if you set up some phantom sources? I don't see why not. A question for Marc Koval at the Mothership perhaps.

Another thing to keep in mind, if you run two 3x SPDIF equipped sources into your 861, You've used up all the standard available SPDIF inputs. For just this reason, I just ordered an ID20 card (2x SPDIF and 2x Toslink) to accomodate my SPDIF connected CD/LD Transport along with my Toslink connected Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles.

Happy Trails!

I don't think it can unless you can add a second IE42 (which is not possible, right?).

Indeed, just one IE42 card is possible.

Hmmm... Don't know for sure. What does MConfig say?

IE42 can't be added via MConfig. So it isn't going to be easy to configure a 2nd card wink

John,

"Are you game for a Sharp Blu-ray player?"

Sure, but lets wait till I have the card with the channel inversion available... just in case it is needed.

Thanks,

Shawn

Is the VS50 strictly a passive switching card? If it is active at all it may not switch SPDIF properly. A passive component switching box will work fine to switch SPDIF.

Its not at all possible. My understanding is that the IE42 possesses the "master" digital input receiver circuitry to which only the ID20, ID25, and ID30 can be slaved.

Hey Lads,

Just received an update from Shawn this morning on my HD-XA2 modification. Like the Toshiba HD-A1 and HD-A35 he'd modded previously, his standard 3x SPDIF board works fine with the XA2 but requires the "co-processor" board. Just installation of the three RCAs on the backplate and a test to ensure video is still working as it should. It would appear all systems are go!

Happy Trails!

For those of you that might be interested, I'm going to be a guinea pig on a blu-ray mod.

Best,

Best,

John:

How do you plan to manage three 3XSPDIF sources with your 861 (I assume - always dangerous - that you also still use a DVDUpgrades modified SACD player and a Meridian CD player)?

I am interested in eventually getting a modified BR player but am somewhat leery about the degrading effect of a component switcher bwtween the 3XSPDIf sources and 861.

Thx!

Simon

Best,

I would be most interested to hear how this goes - keep me posted!

Have you heard anymore rumours of the mooted Oppo HD DVD Bluray hybrid machine?

Regards

Mark
