Whats stopping someone from having more than one mpeg decoder in the player ?
Keep the Ziva and only use it for DVD-A.
Is'nt it so the latest iteration of the Ziva only has cue with pal mtrl.. drat i'm living in Europe crazy

For PC/Windows Media Center users it might be worth noting that Creative continue to support MLP/DVD-A in their Xi-fi and Audigy series sound cards. Which unfortunately does not mean that you can get it through SPDIF (non-MLP files bypass analogue, though). Creative is kind of dubious, and hardly "high end", I know...

I think when M sold the rights to MLP and Dolby launching Dolby TrueHD. Not much is keeping them to hold on to the DVD-A sticker. I would have to agree that when Dolby TrueHD comes to HDMI and G-Series, Dolby TrueHD is the real sticker to have!

I can only hope that their new USB ports can handle 8 PCM streams so that I can use my MediaServer with the G series soundcard for Dolby TrueHD lossless output.

Hi All,

I've just noticed the G96 and G68 ver 2 datasheets on the Media site.

http://media.Meridian-audio.com/datasheets/g_series/G68-rev2-datasheet-engA3.pdf
http://media.Meridian-audio.com/datasheets/g_series/G96-datasheet-engA3.pdf

Highlights:
G96 does have MHR outputs (3xco-ax only, no D-SUB), but the data sheet and front panel are very specific about DVD-Video. No mention of DVD-A. I guess this allows distributed processing and upsampling.

G68.2 (my terminology, not theirs, they called it a G68 ver2)
USB marked up as computer audio input specifically. No mention of output.
models are:
ADV we know and love
AXV balanced analogue instead of digital, 4xbal, 6+2xunbal
XXV same as AXV, but all balanced out

AXD and XXD: USA only! Loses video switching, but adds digital surround out with MHR.

Shame, that AXD looks perfect for me. Well, assuming that I had the cash for it.

Well, I'm very happy that my ADV is still current. It is unfortunate for D and J owners whose models have clearly been replaced by the G61R. I can't see software support for these variants ending, but I wonder if support will extend to hardware upgrades? MConfig does not ask whether or not a G68D or G68J has the forthcoming USB card; it does for ADV, AXV and XXV*.

I guess the (install?) market for balanced analogue audio is big in the States so Meridian needed G68s with both balanced analogue and digital outputs (which the AXV and XXV didn't offer). Analogue video switching is completely old hat now; no surprise to see it go.

My only surprise is that the AXV and XXV haven't completely given way to the AXD and XXD and, to a lesser extent, that the ADV has been retained.

* This doesn't mean that a card upgrade will be offered, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

Just spotted something else; no DAB radios anymore on the G68. Probably a wise choice.

And it mentions 'DSP based FM Stereo Width/Blend'. I wonder if that's the bit of processing that leaked off the tuner/opt card?

MConfig does not need to ask if the G68J or G68D have USB or not as they do not exist any more so they cannot have USB as its only available in the new variants of G68.

I'm struggling here to see any differences in the text other than a find/replace on G98/G96 and a few different pictures. Yes, there are some new models and some deletions, but the rest of the text is unchanged and is as contradictory and error prone as the original ones. I think more than a proof read is required, but a read over by someone who knows the features of the new products are required. G96 is the worse culprit - talk of 2 channel HDMI audio in one place and 6 channel in another, 1080i mentioned in one place, 1080p in another, plus the video specifications is going to trick come poor sole into thinking that it can transcode 1080i HD component video to HDMI unless it now can - a particular gripe of mine since I was fooled into thinking it could when I purchased my G98.

selected video input is converted to all formats at valid resolutions (except non-interlaced component input which bypasses processor).

Oh dear.

In my experience, the start of the slippery slope to business oblivion is demonstrated by lack of attention to detail. It shows a lack of passion and care being exercised in the business, that there are inadequate controls in place and that too few people in the company actually understand the products.

Prove me wrong.

(Mind you, Meridian documentation has always been their weakness.)

Prove me wrong

I've been a Meridian user and buyer of various components for about 15 years now. During that time they have consistently had VERY POOR Product Brochures; User Manuals (which are SLOOOWWLY) improving; as well as a Website lacking in Updates and Accurate information

During the same timer interval, they have also consistently produced some of the best Sounding kit available to the market.

So in Meridian's case, Product Performance hasn't been compromised by a lack of Documentation performance. Indeed there are many similar examples of this at other companies. The reverse can also be true (i.e. great documentation, poor products)

However, as with Stock Market performance, "Past Performance is not necessarily a Guide to, or a Guarantee of, Future Performance" smile smile
