I don't know if it's the right place to post this, but I think some of you might want to check out Clapton's autobiography (it was a surprisingly interesting reading for me) and there's also a double CD one can purchase separately ( "Complete Clapton" ) - no new stuff - but it's well produced.

I would also mention the "Sessions for Robert Johnson" CD+DVD (Clapton). A good CD, and the DVD seems to get better every time I watch it.

The new Eagles studio album (double CD) is well worth (at least) a spin (Bob Ludwig is credited with the mastering).

Since I started mentioning books, I'd also suggest Barney Hoskin's "Hotel California" - lots of stuff there, a bit less catchy than the Clapton book, though.

Recommend also the new album from Neil Young, Chrome Dreams II. Be sure to get the version which includes the DVD with 24/96 sound.

I would recomend the The John Gorka disc on AIX.
DVD-A is not dead.. yet.

I've just ordered chrome dreams.. i hope it's a good one. I like Neil Young but only a third of his stuff, i'm quite indifferent to a lot off stuff his releasing.

The McCartney Years DVD is a surprisingly nice listen . Some purists dont like the reframing of the videos ( most of his video ideas were quite poor IMO anyway )

I just fire it up and turn the screen off smile

Clapton's 'Crossroads' DVD set is also well worth a listen

Can I suggest "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" by The Flaming Lips on DVD-A.

This has to be my favourite 5.1 experience when it comes to music.

You're in for a real treat with FoabP , especially track 3 'Anesthetise' which was
premiered in 2006 under the pseudonym ' The Beast' ( cos it's 17 minutes long ) . The difference in sound quality between this and the previous dts release is huge .

Plus you also get the bonus mini album 'Nil Recurring' tracks in mlp 5.1 .

The Flaming Lips album is one of those that shows the possibilities of creating for surround sound . I like it but many will say there are too many tricks in the mix .

PT will ( hopefully ) be announcing the release of the 'Lightbulb Sun' album in a new CD/DVD-A set . It should be available to preorder shortly .

Band: Paramore
Album: Riot!
Commentary:

Been listening to this band the last few weeks- a lot of fun!

the album is called "Riot!" and Id sum up the sound as good fun rock. the lead singer is 19 and many of the songs are teen/early 20s angst type songs but the group plays pretty musically tightly. In particular I think the drummer is very good and the lead guitarist is also very good and the lead singer girl has a great rock voice. Sometimes they get a little Pat Benitar meets No Doubt sounding but just a little bit and overall I am impressed. The guitarist has some hints of U2's Edge in his playing. They have a big top 10 hit with "Misery Business". My feeling is this group and album have legs and will go on to be one of the signature albums of 2007-08. I think the sonics are good. The sound is probably compressed but at least it is clear. I doubt this is reference material but its FUN! smile

heres amazon's take:

Ah, youth: the exuberance, the energy, the blistering highs and bottomless depths. It`s an ideal breeding ground for true rock & roll belief. Hence, the youngsters of Paramore unearth geysers of loud, sugary angst on Riot!, their major label debut and follow-up to 2005`s All We Know Is Falling. Small-town musicians who have played together for years, Paramore boasts the appeal of an emo-pop blast developed out of savvy songwriting and musicianship. The sweet spot the band hits--somewhere between Avril Lavigne and All-American Rejects--comes naturally. Lead singer Hayley Williams, barely 18, has big-time vocal depth and genuine charisma besides, and while her singing can sound a little contrived, she delivers with such end-of-the-world conviction that it`s an easy flaw to forgive. Bright and catchy melodies abound, but songs like "Misery Business" and "Miracle" also feature razor-sharp cadences and ultra-clean transitions. Too clean, actually. The production is crystal clear, which accentuates the stumbles (mostly on the ballads) and robs these whippersnappers of the messy highs they surely achieve playing live. But some things can`t be entirely glossed over, and while the more aged among us will sip our Scotch and make fun of their adolescent shenanigans, we`ll also be surreptitiously listening on our iPods after we put the kids to bed. --Matthew Cooke

their first album is not as polished but its almost as listenable. overall I have to say for a bunch of kids, this is very impressive.

"El Bonchazo" - a collection of Latin American songs and tunes on the "1/4 Azul" label no CACD071.

I heard it first at Christmas around midnight in a tapas and dive bar in Madrid (The Bear and Strawberry Tree if you are interested and my thanks to the barman for telling me what is was) playing on an old CD player through a single broken speaker hanging from the ceiling. It sounds nearly as good through my home system.

Available mail order in Europe from www.zonadecompras.com - my copy came with two other free samplers, bargain.

For hispanic speakers the site describes it thus:

"Cuarto azul les presenta para este verano el recopilatorio de las mejores orquestas Canarias con lo último en salsa y merengue, incluye la canción de Caracas Latin Brothers (Menchu, Pamela y María.) "

Enjoy with a cold beer and hot chickpea stew.

I dont know if i have mentioned this one before but Christie Moore Live in Dublin 2006 DVD is a treat for all you Christie fans.

If you get it, go straight to the Extra's and play the Soundcheck option.

Christie and Declan playing an empty "Point Theatre" Just to get the Camera angles sorted, I am told.
The DD soundtrack is well balanced as well.

He has Declan Sinot backing him up, that guy is amazing!

Enjoy, Chris smile

Can anyone recommend a particularly good performance and recording of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez?

Thanks,
Joel
