Maby I don`t understand correct, but I really can`t see the advantages in decoding the sound in the player. First the D/A convertion in the player, and then the A/D convertion in the processor?? Then what is the point with HDMI? Not with HDMI there's a straight digital feed. If you don't decode in the player you can't add additional mix elements. Examples of mix elements: - Button sounds (not my cup of tea but)...
- In Movie Experience
- Downloading additional audio content
. If you don't decode in the player you can't do any of this. Better yet, whats the point with a expensive processor when the player is doing all the work? The processor does more than just format decoding. If you have a PCM input to the 568.3, G68, 861v4 (maybe three too) you upsample to 24/96K when less than 96K input. It's either decode the audio stream or upsample it. This path is the same path that Dolby and DTS were suggesting as well two or three years ago. It is the correct way to do things. Cheers,

As discussed in another thread, one important reason for decoding the new bitstreams in an audio processor is if manufacturers choose not to decode in the player. DTS-HD Master Audio, for instance.

2. Decoding HD audio codecs in the player gets to PCM. PCM then gets sent to the processor for the D/A conversion - much like is currently done by 800 for DVD. So, unless I misunderstand also, you are still passing a digital signal to the processor - not an analog one. Yes, and this is exactly what can be accomplished with HDMI 1.1 (or any newer version). Yes. But there is a big difference between passing digital 0 & 1's and passing digital music
