Thanks guys. I'm currently listening to Radio 3 (what else grin ) at work on my HD600 cans. Very clear, but not the best signal... (@Bob - build a better aerial mate wink ) I think I've already exhausted all of the user configuration options laugh . Most amusing that the picture on the front of the manual has an F80 also tuned into said station.

@sns - I won't be using it with a display.

@goodolddog - yes and no; it's really a replacement for my 5000s in my living room, but it is a new toy (and SWMBO will find it easy to use!). Also one hell of a talking point.

I use extendable airiel for DAB and FM, It works a treat.
Just because we have inputs doesnt mean we have to use them.

Enjoy, Chris smile

Just switched DAB from using the curly-wurly aerial to the telescopic one. All of a sudden I've gotten DAB, so thanks for the pointer!

Yes, Aerial Inputs.
You got DAB, try 'The Jazz' on DAB, you will be surprised.

Cheers Chris smile

Oh boy. grin

I live within walking distance of the Bow Brickhill FM transmitter (which is actually in the middle of Woburn Golf Course). Signal strength with the telescopic aerial is unsurprisingly outstanding and FM is therefore the preferred choice for (BBC) Radios 1 through 4. DAB reception is also excellent with the telescopic. I will try out The Jazz as you suggest Chris. I don't have to tell most people on this forum about the clarity of this thing... The folk stuff on Mike Harding's Radio 2 show tonight was beautiful.

I've just played my usual audition CD and, yes, my jaw is on the floor again. This product really does have no right to sound this good. I've also had one moment (Sting - The Soul Cages - Mad about you) where a sound came at me from the side. Amazing.

I can sum up the F80 in one word: astonishing. I just need to hook up my 562V.2 so I can play my Squeezebox and vinyl ( laugh ).

Oh, the Grigio Silverstone (graphite grey) looks just like the Aston Martin metallic silver. Cool.

Now then...

I wonder if anyone else has spotted this? I was playing the CD and pressed standby. I then pressed standby again and, for a fleeting moment, 96kHz came up in the display. This is quite repeatable and most interesting; the manual only mentions 44.1 and 48kHz... I have also been told that the optical input won't accept 96/24, but I think I'm going to give it a shot anyway. If that doesn't work, I can only assume that the F80 plays 96/24 DTS or 96/24 DVD-V.

The Jazz does indeed sound excellent. It is only 96kBit/s but as it's only mono that's the same effective quality as Radio 3 @ 192kBit/s but in stereo...

The F80 plays DVD-V@96/24PCM beautifully, I've had some dropping jaws from friends playing for instance some of the restored Neil Young releases with CD+DVD-V@96/24 (well, my jaw dropped the couple of first times too, before I just started smiling or laughing).
If you don't actively dislike Young the acoustic solo (some acoustic guitar, some piano) effort Massey Hall 1971: Performance Series Vol.3/+DVD is very much recommended (never been much fan of a lot of his acoustic stuff before this, but this is incredible).
