1) How big a room will the F80 fill? My lounge is 11' x 22' and I seem to recall that presentation room we were all in on Hikers' Day had to be at least that size. My F80 fills the room of my Diner/kitchen and the diner/kitchen of my deaf next door neighbours

Thanks Ian. Anyone know about the 96/24 input?
Is the F80 manual online anywhere?

Virus, I have just gone through my F80 Manual and can find no mention of 96/24. The F80 Manual is completly differant to any Meridian Manual I have ever seen, i.e. it is simple with lots of clear pictures to follow. A call to the Mothership may be required to get the answers you need. Cheers, Chris

Joel Not sure this helps, but the F80 does play (and play extremely well) the 2-Channel 96/24 DVD-V's which are out there I have not tried connecting a 96/24 capable source to the F80. A question for Meridian or possibly bring your Sony 7700 DVD along to your dealer to test across an optical connection

Thanks Ronnie. TBH, I would be astounded if it didn't accept 96/24, but I will check with Mother.
Incidentally, the Sony 7700 downsamples hi-res material to 48kHz. It was one of the few criticisms levelled at it by <reviewer> in HiFiChoice IIRC.

Joel I used to have (not any more though) the "sliding door" Sony 7700 and I also helped a few people set up other Sony DVD Players of a similar vintage
I remember a Setup Menu option which asked you how you wanted the DVD Player to output 96/24 material. I think this was in the Setup Menu under Audio Options
I never tested to see if setting this option ACTUALLY outputted 96/24 material from a suitable DVD-V, but since 96/24 2-Channel Audio was part of the DVD-V spec, I would have thought it would. Worth trying on yours and see what your G68 reports as the source resolution

why oh why wouldn't they include hdmi FOR VIDEO?! Space, cost, RF management, and my guess that the F80 would significantly undercut the G9x DVD players.

VK. Your guess regarding undercutting the G9x was exactly the point Bob mentioned at the factory visit.
It was previously mentioned that video performance was sub par with a $200 Oppo unit. Hardly surprising considering its only got composite and s-video out. That said, its more than adequate on my 17" LCD TV. S-video is actually not a bad quality connection, so I guess that it all comes down to the display capabilities of the display device. I certainly don't think that the F80 is going to be any different video quality wise than the s-video output of a 596, 598, G9x.

I don't remember that Ian, but it makes sense. Very frustrating though that the F80 video never made it out of the 20th Century... Having said that, my living room TV doesn't have HDMI...

SNS, the F80 is a great piece of kit, It just doesn't do what you want. I watched Music DVD's on mine and the picture quality is great on my 32" LCD for this type of material. If you buy one, you will find a home for it. A cut down version with DAB/FM only would be handy but I feel the savings are not there. ie. it may as well have DVD as well. Access to the clock when it is on would be handy especialy as DAB transmit this. I would buy another if funds allowed, even listening quietly you really notice you are missing somthing when you listen to an Ordinary Radio. It just grows on you. Cheers, Chris.

Will the F80 accept a 96/24 digital input? According to Meridian, the answer is no. Which is a shame as I would like to have fed it the 96/24 copy/zone output from my G68 (for vinyl). Looks like I still have some use for my rapidly depreciating 562V.2... Also, has anyone actually seen an F80 in the graphite grey special edition (Grigio Silverstone)? Is the grill lighter than the usual black and how sparkly is the finish in normal (i.e. non-brochure) conditions? Apparently the photos are not terribly representative of what the Grigio finish actually looks like! The grill is black and, in normal light, the finish is a lot less sparkly than the photos suggest. Thanks to St. Ed for the answers.
