No problem. I was just wondering if I upgraded to 2.3 and it was problematic whether or not I could go back to 2.2.

I dont think they recommend going backwards in firmware . Earlier versions may no longer be compatible with newer settings , plus you could re-introduce disc compatibility/web problems . May be better to just observe the initial 'buggy' reactions on the web .

On a different note , I came across this :

http://www.switch-box.com/3x_S_PDIF_Digital_Output.html

They actually mention M equipment so would this unlock digital transmission of the newer codecs on Hd ? Or have I missed something ?

P.S. Regarding Michael Bay tolerance levels , he must have had his BD friends ( and Mr. Spielberg ? smile )over for dinner again wink

and for anyone adventurous enough to want 24fps1080p now :

Maybe the HDDVD camp should have included a few bucks for Mr. Bay in their payment to Paramount. smile

Great find on the 3SPDIF output- Id love to see this happen.

best regards,
Jerry

No, you haven't missed something. This is sfogg's company which also does the universal translator. By tapping into the signal prior to HDCP encryption, legal issues are avoided. Shame it's not comparible with the Oppo 970 (yet). Did you spot the on-board buffering?

" Did you spot the on-board buffering? "

No , I didn't but I would love to see a 4 SPDIF 7.1 capable M version in the next generation smile That would be sweet if possible !

I think it shows M's wait-and-see approach with regards to the Q+A ( almost 2 months in the making wink ) , and information generally is a very poor play IMO . Count the increase in Sales over in the Restaurant and the 'New' stickers on their website and then check the 'Media' site to see when they were applied , for example . Its depressing reading .

If they leave it too long before they build it , I fear ' they may not come ' (

Every time an HD disc appears in both formats I have this dilemma: I want to buy the HD DVD, but my PS3 is so much more usable than the XA1. Hmm....

Uh ? Well, for me it's the opposite. That is I like using the XE1 more than the PS3 (w remote). I don't mean to say the PS3 is bad. So far I always buy a title in HD-DVD if it's available. And I have to say the BD camp still has some work to do when it comes to music titles wink.

Me too with XE-1 . Just downloaded V 2.5 firmware for 24fps/1080p from here :

http://tesc.toshiba.co.uk/Web/ModelLis.nsf/DynamicStatic/HD%20DVD%20PC%20Update?OpenDocument

I like the Region Freedom and I shouldn't have any problems with future players . If I ever have to turn Blu I'll feel less silly for having gone Red in the first place if I have a decent collection smile

I find this guy quit reasonable to read because he's a supporter of both formats and then tends to be quite objective . It makes you feel even sadder that the powers that be couldn't have sorted this out before launch frown

Having witnessed the Dolby Digital+ Dolby True HD + dts Ma Hd nonsense over at avs ( particularly regarding 'Transformrs' ) its refreshing to read someone with some credibilty to his argument .

As some (most?) forum users may have noticed, a region free* version of the 2.5(01?) firmware was recently hacked/leaked in Australia, originally on the DTV Forum, and is being discussed there and for instance on the UK AV Forums.
I can confirm it works for my European HD-XE1 (after first updating to the official 2.5 firmware).

This just as a FYI, I suggest detailed discussion on where and how to is kept to existing threads on the two forums I linked to (or elsewhere). Discussing details/providing d/l links might be unwise on a US based forum.

*The region free firmware reportedly does not work with all/any RCE-coded discs.
