Thanks Daniel. I saw a comment on AVS that suggested a new master would be required as the one used for the DVD has edge enhancement (yes the master). I hope Sony(?) do a top notch job on this.

As far as I have heard, a new master is what they (yes Sony) have been busy working on and is the chief reason it's been moved to 2008. The indication seems to be it'll come in the first half of next year rather than the second.

Which site Mark? There's nothing on Amazon.

Good catch! Just checked and it's a DVD boxset - I could have sworn it was HD-DVD when I placed the order. Have cancelled just in time laugh

Really looking forward to seeing this in the cave if only to see how good it can really look and sound. My local cinema going experience continues to get increasingly depressing as projection quality decreases and sound quality is always non-optimal (when you complain they give you vouchers but do not fix the problem); not to mention the usual pet peeves, mainly related to other audience members (anybody else get really annoyed by bright mobile phone displays popping up all over the auditorium - this seems to be on the increase) Digital projection at home with HD sources, properly calibrated sound, no ambient lighting and no audience annoyances is significantly outperforming anything that my local cinemas can offer...

Nothing like an early morning rant to get the weekend off to a good start laugh

Congrats ! on your new toy Cliff . If M aren't going to do HD-DVD I may partake of one myself for the bedroom .

I don't know what your free discs are but definitely try out some of these golden oldies for great picture : Mutiny on the Bounty , Grand Prix , Casablanca , The Searchers

and for sound : Constantine , Batman Begins , The Matrix and for trashing your living room , surprisingly , Transformers smile

On a positive note though, buying discs is cheaper than going out to the flicks (particularly once babysitting and food are taken into account) and the gap between cinema release and disc release is now very short for many movies.

Thanks. Won't be getting the new toy till early November though. I think we'll have a long wait before M deliver a HD player and I'm not sure I'm prepared to pay the inevitable premium price.

Toshiba's free disc offer is pretty good. 300 and Bourne Identity in the box + 5 more from a reasonable range ot titles.

Can't wait!

Cliff
