I get the feeling that Mother is up to something big and unexpected. We know they are working on HDMI - Bob has told us that - but in what form they intend to deliver, especially if it has far reaching consequences, I can see why they would want to keep that to themselves.

As an FYI Bob is traveling and there was a bit of an issue with getting the e-mail through properly.

Lest some think it's some sort of a conspiracy on M's part I mangled Bob's e-mail address on my end and it was forwarded from another M staffer to Bob. Had I not made the error it would have been posted already.

When Bob et al have had a chance to review the responses to make sure I translated properly (we both have miserable hand writing) we'll get them posted.

Cheers,

Hopefully these will appear sometime soon . I've been trying to cheer myself up in these darkening autumn nights looking for crumbs of comfort and in actual fact there is some info. out there like this interview with Bob Stuart earlier this year on the subject of
Home Theater in 2012 :

Manus:

Bob said that he had a very very hectic week and it would likely be this week before he had them back to me.

See above with respect to my error and Bob's globetrotting wink

Cheers,

Did you notice the crap Denon released on that link ? It's sort of an AirPort Express with an iPod dock. But Analog and S-Video out only. Total crap.

yes very much useless I agree, The M dock is more sophisticated on the Video side but what's the use really? I'm not sure the target audience will buy that, they will find the cheapo version and buy that one with no understanding of the underpinnings.

I think M is loosing its focus may be it is for survival I'm guessing.

It seems that this link should provide more videos, so I guess we should come back to it later.

I'm a lot more interested byt the Denon DVD-3800BD and not another docking station.

Technically the IRIS is impressive but will it sell? Time will tell.

They certainly seemed to hit a sweet spot with the F80.

Actually, I think it's a very deliberate plan to bring Meridian products to an entirely different customer base. It's all about raising Meridian brand awareness and ultimately making customers - who would have bought B&O - buy Meridian instead.

Remember that Meridian has a ton of technical intellectual property. What it needs to do is start selling more of its products; which it won't do if only hifi afficionados have heard of the brand.

Why not just get the intellectual property into the products of manufacturers who already sell to non-afficionados? That may be what will result from the collaboration with Microsoft that was rumoured some time ago. If they do that, they don't risk losing their upmarket credentials.
