Hi all,
I am planning my return to Meridian. The heart of the system will be a 568.2. I currently have B&W 705 mains and an LCR600S3 centre. Obviously I will need power amps to run them. I was considering going active at this point, hence my question about M33s as main speakers.
I had a DSP33C for a while a couple of years ago. The sound quality was impressive - I sold it because when it was required to produce the gunshot scenes in Heat at -10db, it limited the output (presumably to protect itself). My LCR600 with a 505 delivered the dynamic shots as they were intended.
I presume that the DSP circuitry was in charge of this 'limiting' and the analogue versions wouldn't strangle the audio in that way?
What kind of output is the M33 capable of? I am considering it as it is compact (my living room is small) and means I wouldn't need a stack of power amps.
Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Chris

Hi Chris, I have an M33c and am Impressed with it. It is physicaly small which helps with SWMBO and it matches perfectly with my A500's Driven by a 557. The output is 2x 75 watt amps. As Meridian say with their active speakers, that you do not need to over engineer the amps as you know exactly what parameters are involved and therefore can match things perfectly. In the end, you will just have to try them, or perhaps some M60's with an M33C. Just my thoughts, Cheers Chris

It is physicaly small which helps with SWMBO... I guess everything is relative.

I am using M33's as LCR, with in-ceiling speakers at the rear. Our condo has been entirely opened up and the sound fills the space quite well (8 feet ceiling where media area is, facing into an atrium with 15 feet sloped ceiling). I have a PV1 subwoofer to handle the low frequencies. Mind you, prior to this system I had M100s which had a much fuller sound. However, I am not into hugely loud music so much anymore (and the neighbors thank me for that <g>) and the trade-off for me is VERY acceptable.

Are there any stands that support the 33s securely apart from the omnimount which I presume is wall mount only?

Thanks for that.. How is the curve of the M33 handled? I presume there are no screw holes in the bottom of it?

mmmmmok. not quite what I had in mind any other suggestions? If I'm going to go for the 33s, they will need secure support.

They come with rubber feet so can stand on a flat surface.
I replace my rubber feet with spikes so sit on a shelf - mine are not the best looking, but they serve a purpose. I would expect that a speaker stand would suffice if it was large enough.
I never found that the curved bottom was much of a problem if a bit of thought was used when placing the feet and the feet were tall enough.
And as Spinal says, blutak works well too.

Sorry for the butt into your thread, i'm still trying to win the missus over about DSP/m33 waf appeal, as i cant afford 3100's.
has anyone got any photos of DSP's in place, and also what height stands do you use?
Cheers

Chris,
Does you budget stretch far enough to consider M3100's?
Compared to the M33's the matching stands for the M3100's bolt directly under them very securely.
