Of course I would prefer Sony over Samsung too. But Sony isn't about to make a Dual player now are they. Samsung knows their stuff. They make probably 1/3 the worlds displays we look at (From Dell Monitors, iPhones to Competitive TV displays). They make a lot of chips everyone uses. I agree their first BR wasn't first rate but it was first and fairly early and they did fix many issues. Their follow on units are competitive.

I agree on comments of LG. I just consider them a brand that tries to find the cheapest cheapest way to build anything. Sometimes it works sometimes not. LG has come a long way but they have a ways to go yet.

George, I mean that going by brand name is often deceiving. Sony branded things used to mean good. Now its not so certain. I feel that Samgsung is a notch above LG but just a notch. I would be cautious about anything in this dual player space because they will not sell many units so the incentive for them is not very high.

Jerry

I agree Samsung is just a (solid) notch above LG. I still think Sony means good (Several notches up from LG or Samsung). Sure they sell some low end junk but there "mid-fi" and up is fine. They compete fairly well in every class of TV they make. The PS3 I have has been flawless. I put Pioneer, Toshiba and Sony at around the same level. Oh and I love my Sony DVR (only unit every made like it to record broadcast OTA HDTV in a standalone box I believe).

Before plunking down the dollars on a decision between Sony and Samsung, be aware that they have a lot of co-operative agreements and a great deal of Sony gear is made OEM by Samsung. If it says "made in Japan" it's Sony's factory, if not then it could well be a Samsung production line.

Yes. For the past 10+ years my opinion has been that there is a hefty premium for the Sony name. Sometimes worth it, but sometimes not.

While I don't use the function, the TIVO HD can do OTA. I use the multi Ccard, and love the product. 1 hours of teli is now compressed to about 20 min!

Maybe. But I don't have to pay any service fees.
