To follow on from Simons question, would Meridian consider utilising the display technology used in the F80 (or some other form of display technology such as LED) and incorporate it into a remote control device. A remote utilising softkeys and an OSD would be cool.

I personally would like to see a remote 'OSD' of some form whether incorporated into a remote control, or hard wired into the Meridian comms. IIRC, something like this was available for the 200 series.

Maybe they've been listening to their DSP8000s in their theatre room with the volume up a notch or 2 too far..... one of the enclosures was faulty which may have indicated too much abuse....
or maybe they've never actually used the thing as you surely cannot miss it?!

Simon:

It's essentially undetectable to my SPL meter sitting directly on top of it. It's official lower limit is 30dB SPL and it registers in the low 20s for an SPL. That's really an errant reading.

Most rooms have a base noise level well above this (ie the low 20s in SPL); so I have to congratulate you on having such an excellent environment.

Hmmm, maybe they have improved since first release as you can clearly hear mine in use even when I have the music on - albeit at low (35-45 volume levels on CD). There is still no excuse for any noise though given the apparent simplicity of the technology.

John, it's a very high-pitched whine that, to my ears at least, stands out by a country mile. It's not just a background kind of whine but is loud and clear. It's the kind of whine that one might associate with a burst of tinnitus.

I appreciate that some people's high frequency hearing diminishes with advancing years - so some might not hear this noise - but even in my advancing years I could definately hear it.

I've noticed this on all three of my MSR+ remotes. Really annoying and unnecessary.

I don't have an MSR+ but, the remote for my Crystalio 3800 video processor does make a whine noise when the backlight is on. For a few days I was puzzled at what was making this noise- was it in my head?? Then I figured it out- its the backlight. Its unacceptable for the CII remote, though I don't need to use it very often anymore, and I think its unacceptable for the MSR+. They should fix it. Its a great looking remote. I also think Meridian users would be well served if there was a smaller wand style remote which had a few major function buttons on it (volume/source/DSP). I feel the MSR/MSR+ is fairly well laid out for a big remote, but its a two hander and a one hander is useful in many situations.

best regards,
Jerry

I've got two MSR+'s and have tried them both in the past. They both whine so I'd be interested in any fix for this. Everyone who uses my system thinks the MSR+ is a great remote as it controls everything but they all mention the whine noise so it's not just me.

Also concurr (again) with the don't change to CD/DVD just because I've closed the CD draw. Lost count of the number of times I've recovered a disc and got told off because sound for EastEmerdaleEnder Street has just been lost.

Thanks for asking John.

Hi I used to notice the whine on my MSR+ but i dont anymore.

It is there if I hold it to my ear, but you cant hear it in normal use so the question is, What has changed?

It could be worth trying new batteries. (Do it quick so as to preserve any programing you have done)

Is the darkness of the room a factor as I believe it senses this?

In the end, if this is my biggest trouble in life I think I am a very lucky boy!!

Cheers Chris smile

The better the room is; the less need there is for Audyssey. It's reason for existence is to help improve sound quality in a standard room.

Above 100hz or so neither the Audyssey nor MRC really nails my room.

I only have a few filters above 100 Hz. Mine is a very well treated room though smile

User interface on MRC, and repeatability, both are pretty poor.

It does have a bit of a quirky personality doesn't it?
