Mark B and Doody, I'm looking at the same thing re some means to activate the 12v trigger on my amp when the 568 turns on/off. I'm no rs232 expert--can the Meridian's 232 be configured to send a signal? Please keep me posted on your thoughts/results; I'll do the same. Thanks.

now that i look again at the RS232 specs on their www site (in Library - Applications) it looks like it's inbound only - not bidirectional.

doody.

Doody, that's what it looked like to me also. The Ocelot looks like it can receive the IR signal, not sure how/if it can than transmit a 12v signal to the amp (of course this would not work when you turn the Meridian on/off at the front panel rather than via the remote).

if i may be so bold to ask, why do you want to turn off your amp? what kind of power does it really draw when it's not in use?

i'm all DSP speakers these days, but back in my amplifier days, i never ever shut an amp off, unless i was going away for a week or more.

doody.

For the ocelot sending a 12 volt signal. That would be possible, the sell a multi port relay box that you can controll with Ocelot. So take an small power source, route it through the relay device and you are there.
The RS-232 bobcat is currently send only. I was told this had to do with the software level of the Ocelot, and that it might become 2 way in the future.
ADI sells also somethin like an sensor bobcat. That is a device which can sensen a LED is on or off. You could use that as well to sense the 568 is powered on or off i think. This is quite easy to program for a Ocelot.

My amp is a Llano Designs Trinity 200 (hybrid with tubed input stage). It idles very warm, so I would prefer to pwr it down when not in use.

Just thought I'd post an update...
I've had this unit replaced, but had the same crackling problem on calibration.
This was after setting up the unit without a PC. Once set up via PC & loading the software however, the unit is fine. So much for the setup without PC! I now need to check tonight whether the Sine / sub test tone works (it didn't before)...

RE: Outputting a signal via RS232.

If the Ocelet (never read up about up so don't know) is smart enough, then the text that the 568 sends out of its RS232 could be used. (I presume the 568 is similar to the 565 in this regard)

When you bring the unit out of standby it outputs text like "CD 58" and when it goes into standby it outputs "."

For around 5 you could build a PIC + RS232 line driver + transistor trigger to do this. If only I had the time!

Meridian506,

The ocelot ascii bobcat is not yet bi directional. It might be in the future when they opgrade the ocelot. At the current level it outputs ASCII only.
