Darryl:

I made/intended my Sony comment with 'tongue firmly planted in cheek'.

As it happens I agree with you: just as top notch gear can enhance the music-listening experience it can equally enhance the movie-watching experience.

IMHO, you should audition any amps you're considering in your system at home before you buy. I recently auditioned a Halcro MC20 in place of a Proceed HPA2 (G68XXV, B&W Nautilus 802), and while there was some difference, I couldn't justify the cost. You may find that some amps just don't sound good to your ears, they might sound only incrementally better, or they might be a dramatic improvement. Try before you buy, as long as you have that option!

I think that sometimes the itch for upgraditis might just go away for a little bit longer if you tried DSPs. I could hunt like crazy for amps, cables and whatnot, but the biggest quality difference was the change to DSP speakers.

Now I know they are not for everyone, but don't rule them out without giving them a chance. You might be surprised smile

I agree with Crion but I would extend the "integrated" approach to active analogue speakers also. I found these to be a massive improvement over my previous amps/passives setup.

Even my DSP5000's do a good job compared to a fair number fo "mixed" high end systems..... plus less cable expenses.
