Hi there,
Please can someone confirm should I connect a SB3 via SPDIF out into my 800 IE16 card D1? Do I need to alter the config`s on the 800 to run this or should the 800 see the SB3 using this connection?
Second question what was the short Blue cable with an RCA plug at each end for I've got one and can't remember what it was for.
Many thanks, Tim.

Seems like a third of an MHR connection...
HD621, G98DH, G68ADV, Bc Acoustiqe ACT A3, 5200C DSP33, NuForce Reference 9 monoblocks, 2x SB3's, Velodyne DD-15 & DD-12 Subwoofers and a Meridian sub.

Tim,
You will need to configue your 861 to enable the input for your SB3.
The blue lead with a phono plug on each end is a Meridian digital inter-connect,you can use this to connect your SB3.

Hi there,
Many thanks I wondered what it was for I'm sure it came with some 600's series or maybe a 518 I used to have, might try it with the SB3.
As for configuring through my 861 not what I want to do, I run this particular 800 as a pre-amp (passive CD volume controller) and just wanted to try the SB3 through it. I`ve tried it direct with our DSP systems but would like to hear it through some analogue equipment.
My guess is I can just plug it into D1 on the OE16 board and it should work if not guess I`ve got to load the config program on Vista and sort it out from there.
Not sure what is meant by third of MHR system?
Many thanks for your help, Tim.

When connecting a Meridian DVD-A player to a Meridian processor using the MHR link, you either use the SVGA MHR link or three blue leads like the one you have. Tim, Do you have any of your digital inputs configued? If so, you could un-plug this device and plug in your SB3.

Hi there,
Guess I didn't configure the digital inputs so will have to connect it to a laptop or computer sometime today and configure them.
Many thanks for the MHR explanation.
Tim.

Hi there,
All up and running, however first impressions of the SB3 against the 800 are the 800 wins hands down. Useful tool though for background music.
Now need to try all the permutations for good quality playback via the SB3.
Again many thanks for everyone`s help.
Tim.

However, you do need to make sure that the SB3 is configured correctly so that it is NOT performing any processing of its own such as digital volume control. For a valid comparison, you also need the very best rip you can get your hands on. I've used Exact Audio Copy, but there are other alternatives.

Tim,
I agree with your comparison.
I have a SB3 and a Mac-Mini, I rip the music to the Mac and play the music through the SB3 (for back ground music). I mainly use the SB3 for Pandora.com and internet radio.
The 800 V4 wins hands down on every other front end I`ve compared it with.
There is a separate thread on this subject.
Mike.

Hi there,
VirusKiller I'm using EAC, FLAC & AccurateRip and have Digital Output Level Fixed. I've been following the Music Bridge/Server thread on here and various other forums before I decided to try the SB3.
average-mph this 800 is a V3 as I use it with its Pre-Amp (CD passive volume controller) into various amps and speakers when or if I can get round to it I'll try it on our 800 V4-861 setup. I do like the thought of using the Internet Radio must give that a try, but as I say the 800 wins hands down for CD playback but the SB3 is convenient but to my ears not that convenient.
Again many thanks for everyone`s help and advice, Tim.

Thanks Tim. Very interesting that you have done it "right", have 8ks, and can easily tell the difference.
I have to say that I am still intrigued as to the reason why. One day I'll find out...
