I'm looking for a new 5 channel amplifier to connect to a G68 and need to put it in a confined space and wanted to put 2 questions to the forum:
How warm running is the G55?
Does anyone have any recommendations on Class D amplifiers, ideally with XLR inputs?

Flying Mole.
PMC uses them, must be good.
Otherwise they can be junk and radiate RF.
Glorified PSU with audio superimposed .

I have modified Bel Canto eVo amps, very efficient with no heat, they replaced my Krell MDA 300 monoblocs which got so hot they could be used as heaters.
The 6 six channel version would suit your requirements, bridge 2 of the channels for a top-notch center channel. When you're ready for an upgrade get it modified by Coherent-Systems, spectacular performance.
Regards Gary

Thx Gary I knew about Bel Canto going back a few years but they seem to have gotten out of multi-channel and don't do anything more with more than 2 channels anymore so, unfortunately, this doesn't look like an option anymore.

I run a G55 with G68j and the heat given out i would say is moderate for this size amp.The amp is in a open stacking system on a glass shelf with the G68 about 4ins above. The amp is left on all the time as well. Regards Keith

I use a Classe CAV 75 ( Watts per x 6-channel ) Mch Amplifier . Bridging is possible and there are more powerful versions available now too : http://www.classeaudio.com/delta/amps-intro.htm ~M~

I use a Parasound/Halo A-51 amp. 5 x 250 wpc into 8 Ohms, bit it is a high bias amp so it runs warmer than most Class A/B's. Balance inputs with a +12V trigger compatible with Meridian trigger outputs.

The problem here is confined space. What about a Sunfire? They run very cool! My cousin has a two channel Sunfire and it sounds pretty darn good. Always cool to the touch. http://www.sunfire.com/amp.htm

Sunfire's do run very cool. I live in th UK, however, and Sunfire puts modified speaker connectors on their european units which only allow bare wire or pin connections. Apparently for safety reasons but hard to understand since as far as know virtually every other brand sells amplifiers with at least spade connectors. Were it not for this, I think Sunfire would be the answer.
Another alternative I'm thinking about is Rotel RMB-1077, which is class D and has gotten very good reviews. The biggest negative is it only has RCA connections and my G68 has balanced connectors so I'ld need to get new XLR to RCA interconnects.

I would just change the connectors myself then. I have Bryston amplifiers and they were nice enough to change the connectors to ones that I could use with my cables. The Brystons will run hot though so they will not work for you. I would make the Sunfires work some how. Heat wouldn't be an issue and you would still have a ton of power. They have XLR inputs too!
