Thanks for that post Gavin, all part of my Drip Drip compaign on SWMBO. At the moment I "have" Pure radios dotted all about the house so I can follow Radio programes anywhere at home. Will this mean I will need more than One F80? Thats a Scary thought next to the need for a new Heating Oil tank, complete house re-decoration; New Bathroom and general life expenditure. Any rich philanthropists out there, please feel free to donate to my very worthy causes (above) in the quest for satisfying audio at the house of chrislayeruk. Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris I can't tell you how adamant my good lady was to the whole idea and I was astonished at the speed that she changed her mind once she had listened to the F80 for only a very short period of time. She has lots of "projects" she wants doing in the home but she does like her music and has got used to a much higher bench mark over recent years with the aquisition of our Meridian system. She has however said that I am to keep my hands off as it will be hers! She latter admitted that she had this feeling that the moment I got her into the shop she would not be able to resist. In the words of the Daleks, (this will be lost on our overseas friends), resistance is futile, F80, F80, F80

Just a thought, but most of our respective managment would normaly (Without us) have no interest in Quality Hi-Fi as provided by Meridian. Yet they are provided it without a thought! and they grow to like it just as much by a form of Osmosis. They do really have the good life. Cheers, Chris How do they do that?

Gavin. Welcome to the club! Originally posted by ncpl: Ian, have you plugged you SB into it yet ? I went to do this yesterday but whilst the SB was easy to get at, I couldn't fathom where I had plugged the power supply into - as the wire disappeared into a hole in the cupboard and went in the direction of a power socket with the little'ns toys stacked infront. Since I only have a manky analogue lead at present (I think the F80 needs a different type of plug than standard for its optical connection) I decided to leave it to another day. Plus the wife uses the SB as a clock and all merry hell would break out if that went walkabouts.

Purely off the top of my head and not having done any physical plugging in of kit, the optical connection is shared with a 3.5mm stereo jack. So its one of those optical connectors in the tip of a 3.5mm jack plug type of connections.
I just need to find my lead of this type, or get an adaptor/new lead. Probably wait until I get around to ordering an SB3 or get some indication from M of their iPod dock capabilities.

With money in my pocket to buy a G95, I made the big mistake of 'window shopping' with my wife at the furniture store. I admit that our present Stag bedroom furniture needs replacing after 27 years - but I really didn't intend on spending 10k on Hulsta bedroom furniture (the 'Meridian' equivalent of fine German cabinetry). Then again, after years of lusting over Hulsta, I couldn't resist the 25% off one-day only discount! Then there's new carpet and decoration to pay for on top. If Meridian hadn't quite so screwed-up the introduction of the G95 my money would have gone there instead two weeks ago (looks like I'll be spending my money on an Acme surround box and blu-ray player, plus B&W PV-1, instead).

Silver F80 now installed and I have just played around with where to site it and fine tuned the settings. Initaly it was placed by a window in the kitchen where SWMBO wanted it to be but she quickly agreed that this was a big mistake, her comment was "I think I have made an expensive mistake". I quickly resited it a corner in the adjoinig dinning area, tweeked the settings and the whole thing just came to life. She is now one very happy bunny. My daughter who seemes to have had her i-pod surgicaly fixed permently to her head even took a double take and said "wow, that's cool" which is praise indeed. I guess I will no doubt play with the settings a little more over the next few weeks but we are without doubt delighted with our new F80. The attention is great, most devices only come with a permently attached rod aeril. Meridian supply three types which says it all!

Hi,
I am new member of this forum from Berlin, Germany. Why did I sign this forum?
Because I bought a really cool piece of hifi at one of the Meridian dealers here in Berlin: the F80.
Probably I am one of the first F80 owners in Germany, mine has also that stylish silver finish.
The F80 looks really amazing and sounds great, given its size and technical limitations. I tried different other compact design-oriented systems for my quite large bedroom (35sqm), but the F80 was the clear winner (B&O, Geneva L/XL, ...).
This is my first Meridian product. My main hifi system will be sold soon (Primare + Cabasse), because of my current lack of time for serious listening. But I am sure that for my next system Meridian components will be on my auditioning list (in 2-3 years from now).
I am still playing with the DSP options. Since I have the F80 standing on a sideboard close to a wall, I chose "shelf" form the menu, but I will try other setup options later today. I am also not shure which tilt option to choose. My first quick tests resulted in +1.5 for my bedroom and a -0.5 bass level as I found the upper bass slightly overemphasized for relaxed listening sessions with the standard settings.
I have a questions to other F80 owners: Is it possible to see the clock on the display in standby-mode without having the alarm set?
Thanks for your replies. I am looking forward to following the future posts about the F80 and about other components, regards, Christian

Welcome to the forum and welcome to Meridian.
Clock works in standby mode - I think you may need to press the 'display' button to toggle through the options - like bloank, calender + clock, and only clock.
I wish the clock was available whilst listening to music.
