My dealer says G95 mid next week.
Watch this space for first thoughts then. A bit annoying not to have DVD-A but my five or six discs in this format really don't get played.
Is the DVD-Audio a software or a hardware thing? ie Can it be added later?

I wonder whether the apparent omission is a marketing thing. The price differential between G91 and G95 is as I recall, not that great. Possibly removing DVD-A redresses some of the balance between G95 and G91 + amp.
I would certainly expect expect the electronics to be near identical to G91 and have an identical software code base. So IMHO, its an artificial removal of DVD-A rather than any physical limitation. I can't honestly see the ROM drive being an influential factor.

You can play the DTS or DD tracks on those DVDA's you may be surprised how good they sound.

A brief video introduction to the G95 - billed as the big brother to the G91 - can be seen here - http://www.cinenow.com/uk/play-video-658.html (a French language version is also available).

It's a sibling of the G91. That is, it's analog version of the G91. Not bigger or smaller.

I would say that the G95 is a bigger brother to the G91. Its got the amps built in so its much more than simply an analogue version of the G91.

No; the G95 is the half-brother to the G91 that no-one in the family likes to talk about (due to an eventful one-night stand between Meridian and Hypex) - because the G95 doesn't play DVD-A, has PLII Movie but not PLII Music pre-sets. The G95 also lacks MHR or digital outputs.
Because of this, the G91 has far more predigree than a G95. Although they wouldn't admit to it, the G95 will always be a disappointment to its parents.

Horses for courses, thats what I say. The G95 will be a simple way for a fantastic system for alot of people who are just interested in the music and not the technology. Lets hope Meridian sell shed loads. Cheers, Chris (Back from Holiday)
No 18 in the Hall of fame I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

The trouble is, Chris, that once you read the G95 user manual it really is a HTiB unit and not intended for music.
Unfortunately, it is the technology - or lack of it - that prevents the G95 from being the music-centred device you seem to think it is.

Spinal, I know what you mean, but that is what most people want. Good God, its a step up from an iPod!!! People are happy with that and really think its Hi-Fi. It has Trifield and can make use of the vast CD Catalouge. The likely market wont have DVD-A and the DTS tracks on them sound great to me. Video will be great on a 32 LCD which is what a vast majority of people aspire to even if they havnt got one yet. For the real enthusiasts there is plenty to please. This is one heck of a HTIB as far as I can see. Bring it on Meridian, make some money to spend on R&D. (perhaps the odd ferrari for BOB) Cheers, Chris
