There's more!

I am playing a play on BBC7 (DAB) which is Mono.

I switched to Ambisonic so all speakers working in a Balanced way.

Then I turned off the centre speaker, and was able to position myself central to the left Front and rear speakers with a really good stereo image at the left side.

This worked for the right side as well.

I dont know what that tells us but I think perhaps somthing must be correct there.

I will try it again with the rear phase set to + later, but its looking good as it is.

Cheers, Chris smile

George, heres my setup (from memory so I might come back later for more accuracy)- note actual distances are rounded to nearest 1/2 foot as the M software demands.

Left Front: DSP 8000, 14' 6" actual distance, Positive Phase, -2.5dB, during calibration I found I got a higher SPL on my RS meter making the distance 13'6"....

Center: DSP 7000, 14'6" actual distance, Positive Phase, -2.0dB, during calibration I found I got a higher SPL on my RS meter making the distance 13'6"....

Front Right: DSP 8000, 14' 6" actual distance, Positive Phase, -2.0dB, during calibration I found I got a higher SPL on my RS meter making the distance 13'6"....

Side Right: DSP 7000, 8'0" actual distance, Positive Phase, -4.0dB, cant remember if I changed this during calibration... more later...

Rear Right: DSP 8000, 11'0" actual distance, Positive Phase, 0.0dB, no change to the distance during calibration

Rear Left: DSP 8000, 11'0" actual distance, Positive Phase, -1.0db, no change to the distance during calibration

Side Left: DSP 8000, 7'6" actual distance, Positive Phase, -3.5dB, ant remember if I changed this during calibration... more later...

best regards,
Jerry

Too funny.

If you think listening to music is fun, try learning an instrument.

An interesting thought, My room is very narrow 3 mtrs deep and very wide. 0.5 ratio.
My Rears need to be Neg phase. (As far as I can tell)
My friend Darren has a 596/561 with DSP5000C and M60's with M33's rear. His room is very much deeper and larger. Checking phase revealed Plus all round.
Could the close proximity (In my case) of front to rear speakers have a major bearing on the Phase front to rear?

Cheers, Chris smile

Chris

My room is of similar dimensions and I also have the speakers set up in the non traditional sense, i.e. centre is on the longest wall hence firing across the room as opposed to down. My listening position is close to the opposing wall.

I don't think this should have a bearing on the phase between front and rear but would surely emphasise an incorrect setup.

Having spoken to Meridian today, there is nothing unusual about your current phase setup, nor mine for that matter.

You think it sounds better so stick with it.
