Is it too soon to know if it can be made multiregion? No deal-breaker, but nice to have.

I got used to this pattern. Delays are part of the normal picture nowadays.

Interesting review of F80 in Hi-Fi World May edition, especially the parting comments about wireless connectivity...

The reviewer clearly heard what we did on the visit, ie. the sound quality is way above anything similar (if anything can be thought of as similar) and many cheap separate systems.

Sorry, didn't mean to tease:

It was just that he said it would be great if it had wireless connectivity, which was similar to some comments on the HH day.

That's all,

Chris

Quite simply, Meridian missed a trick here. I'm not surprised one bit that it has been picked up by a journalist.

Incidentally, the journalist (David Price) reckoned that the DVD performance is bettered by an off-the-shelf 200 DVD player.

Presumably you mean video rather than audio? Audio wise, I would be disappointed, video wise its hardly going to be fantastic performance with only composite and s-video out where as I would expect a 200 DVD player to have better than that, if not upscaling and HDMI. For me its going to go into a 17" LCD display so I don't think the F80 will be the limiting factor.

The Editors Note at the begining of Hi-Fi World May 2007 is very interesting on his thoughts about Meridian, The F80 and its relevance to the Hi-Fi industry in total.
Worth a read if, like me, you normaly dont bother.lol
Cheers, Chris

Hi All,

I visited the Hi Fi World Exhibition at the Park Inn Hotel Heathrow today (Sunday) where Meridian had the F80 on demo. I must say that for the size of the unit it sounds very good, in fact there were a few exhibitors who would have been embarrassed by the F80 in a A/B comparison in sound quality. Just as well I didn't take my dear wife, as I expect one would have been taking the place of my current system!!!!!

What did attract my attention was Music Matters demo of PMC's new EB1 speakers. They were being driven by a Meridian 808i and bridged G57 power amps. It was estimated that they were pumping 1KW apiece into the EB1's!!!! the result was "awesome".

My first visit to a Hi End exhibition was very enjoyable and interesting to see and hear the different interpretations on UK audiophile equipment - each to their own with some etc!!!

It was also good to talk to the manufacturers and put a face to a voice on the phone. Especially the guys from Meridian, thanks for answering my stream of questions.

Regards,

Barry.B
