Some individuals do seem to miss the point and then seem to bang on about the same missed point.
I think this thread should be locked and only re-opened for people to comment once they've seen AND heard the device.

Well, Here's a thought. If the F80 (for those who have listened to it) was behind a curtain, how many would have thought it was something other than a portable? Regards

MI',
That's a good question. I would have owned up to being way off the mark. Such sound simply 'cannot' come from such a small device.
That's what I thought anyway.....I was wrong.

Except that the F80 would best it by some margin in terms of pure sound quality.
I mean it - it is that good. You would need something of the calibre of Meridian DSP speakers to match it and they're rather a lot more than $3000. Using second hand prices isn't a valid comparison in this instance IMHO. If what you say is correct, then Meridian will be the first company to offer a boombox-sized table stereo that can outperform an excellent 2ch, $3k system that does not have to bend the laws of physics to satisfy a small form factor. What you are claiming has never, ever been done. And if it actually was that revolutionary, the partnership with Ferrari would be redundant. The wonderbox would simply sell itself without the need for branding gimmicks. PS: I only quote the Meridian 568 to point out what simply was available out there at the very high end. As I noted, you don't have to go with Meridian. There are several other options at new prices that will keep you within the $3k threshold.

The partnership with Ferrari is not just for marketing purposes (altough this also is a factor). In order to get the product performance mentioned in this thread there is a requirement for advance materials technology in the F80 which is what Ferrari bring to the party.
As said many times above, you need to hear it first and then make your comments.

The F80 is astonishing in terms of the purity and resolution of its sound and its ability to fill a room. I will make the following points: 1) In many real world rooms you are going to be limited by the room. For instance, my kitchen has hard surfaces everywhere and I think that anything would sound sibilant. In other words, the best room for the F80 would be one in which you would put your main hifi in anyway. 2) You are not going to get decent stereo imaging in comparison with a conventional hifi. 3) The demo was clearly done with great quality sources that showed off the F80's true potential. As always, lesser (i.e. most) source material won't sound as good.

On Unilet hifi's F80 pre-order page:
"We ourselves were duped into thinking we were listening to a pre-existing hi-fi setup, which was significantly more expensive. In reality, the F-80 was discreetly placed centrally between two (much larger) conventional standmounted loudspeakers. The Prestige came about when Richard Bates, Meridian's UK Sales Manager, removed these speakers during the demonstration."

Listening to a pair of say 5200's with the F80 hidden away. Then removing the audio/comms cables in front of us and Bob then claiming that we were now listening to a 'wireless' connection - technically possible and at the time something that alot of us would have been expecting. Then the piste de resistance would be removing the power cables and walking off with the speakers

The thing is, If you want advice on Materials, you ask advice among your friends who may be in a position to know. If your friends just happen to be Ferrari, because of past promotional links and the fact that they buy your systems, then lucky you, this is where exciting things happen. The people who run these companies are people you know, (Even sir BOB) so if you just get on well as friends, then you go for it. It's the people you meet who make life fun. I read somwhere that your Income will be the average of the people you most associate with. The same idea must hold true in business, so it seems a good idea to assosiate with Ferrari. Enough philosophical rambling, Cheers, Chris
