I personally don't think the F80 is a main room system and it is certainly not meant to be. Its not going to give you the ability to sit in front of a pair of stereo speakers and go picking off the instruments across the sound stage. But its not a replacement to anything in the Meridian range, but complements it. The G series is safe.
What it does provide is give Meridian quality audio anywhere where you have a mains lead available and can lug the deceptively heavy box to. The weight and construction - using Ferrari composite technology is part of the success of the product along with the electronics and the magic of Meridian DSP technology.
If you have a non optimal space, where 2 or more speaker is not going to be suitable, the F80 is perfect. The quality of the sound is very very very impressive - it was one of those rare hair standing up on my back moments.
If you want Meridian quality in a second, third, forth room, holiday home etc, the chances are that this will win over a traditional stereo system. Don't start auctioning off your Meridian kit just yet.
I have a corner of my dining room just waiting for me to win the F80 in the Meridian competition.
Meridian owner since 1992 Prime & PSU, Focal Elear headphones, Roon (ROCK 8Gi5 NUC), Explorer 1 & 2, F80. 200/203, various Sonos (via Roon).

And it costs rather less than some folk round here spend on their remote controls......
In the spirit of Spinaltap, I would like to confirm that I am not involved in the corrupt theft of a global sport.

Keep it Simple Meridian is exploiting customer loyalty With respect, that's complete rubbish. Only if they added a mandatory 1500 to every product they sold and bundled an F80 with each product would I accept exploitation was happening. Otherwise, you have abosulute control over what you purchase - or not. They've release a new product...good for them. Exploitation

To answer an earlier question, yes we could see it (F80)at the demo, it was not hidden up. I cant understand the negative vibes I am feeling from some people here. (Mostly I would think people who have not heard the F80). Its just another product, and a World leader at that. Meridian can do what they like with their company, I happen to think they are doing a great job. They have an obvious passion for quality and are persueing their own long term goals for the greater good of all Music lovers. My Advice; Listen to it, even if it isn't for you, and it wont be for everyone. Then promote it to people who will then, in time, probably want to come more into the Meriian fold. Perhaps it will boost the second hand value of all our kit as they realise an easy way in to having quality Hi-Fi as a main room system. Meridian; you should be employing me as a promotions executive. lol Cheers, Chris The Glass is still filling up!

Otherwise, you have abosulute control over what you purchase - or not. With all due respect - that is complete rubbish. It is a simple fact that Meridian has the kind of following that would spend a huge premium on a buggy product just as long as it was made by Meridian. If this exact same product, guts and all, were made by Sony, do you think for one second there would be this much interest even AFTER the product was heard? I reckon that you could put a Meridian badge on an iPod dock, slap a few extra ouputs in it and paint it red to sell it at three times the price of anything else. Oh wait...

We all have an opinion , but this is a Meridian enthusiast site. Dont be surprised that we, on the whole, support and enthuse about Meridian. If you dont like the product, simple, just dont buy it. I am sure most of us would simply respect your choice in that matter. The F80 is great, and it will do exactly what it says on the box. Cheers, Chris

i can say honestly that the product is not what i would have wanted or expected initially and i was there on the day. i can also say that i was gob-smacked by the sound that came out of it and once i had got over the initial shock of seeing a Meridian product based loosely on a 60's jukebox i started imagining where i could use it... lots of places!
my main disappointment was the lack of wireless/network connnections and the badge which i thought looked naff... (personal opinion only) but then i drive a jag!
i will still buy one though, perfect for listening too on a veranda in the south of france whilst enoying a beer or two.

Question - what do you get if you combine the following -
A pair of DSP3100's, One half of a SW1600, One G98, One G01DAB, an alarm clock - and then miniturise the whole lot down to the size of a portable toaster?
Answer - a Meridian F80.
Not an Actor, nor married to Jamie-Lee Curtis.

It is stunning, but the more I think about it the more I think it should have had a self-contained iPod dock.
A difficult decision I know (who says iPods are going to last for ever?) but it would have been one less thing to carry around.

VK, James If you look at the recent reviews of MP3 players, the iPod is not up there with the leaders w.r.t features, usability, etc. Therefore, to make a hardware port for an iPod, based on today's design of iPod is surely asking for redundancy in 3-5 years (or next 10 mins at the rate iPod designs come out). I think it's far better to leave it as a plug-in....immune from hardware shape changes.
Keep it Simple..
It's probably the statements of 'fact' that seem to get me going this week. M make the iPod dock but you don't see an ounce of hikers raving over that to get them bought do you ? Why's that? It's got an M badge on it....we're all exploited aren't we?
To use your Sony example one more time - I know that Sony release 100's of new hardware products each year. Meridian release one and there's a bunch of bitching and moaning about it.
If you feel so exploited that they have done that....simply vote with your feet...don't buy it. That was my point that you seemed to miss.
Rgds, Nick

Keep it Simple,
I have no interest in buying an F80 at present, but it is worth auditioning.
