Nick, you may be right but I'll counter with "Does Meridian think that *we* are stupid?". There were several things said on the day - which may have been marketing/distracting tactics - that were, IMO, blatently bull.

At present, streaming music has bugger all to do with downloading lossless tracks. And losing your downloaded music? Come on...

A 5v output would help SB integration. One thing the great styling doesn't lend itself to is just plonking your SB (or the iPod adaptor) on top.

I don't think that streamed music is where Meridian 'think its at'. Like how I interpret their their views on HD, missing out a generation of products, will put them ahead of the game.

I think they already know the virtues of streamed content - the previously reported infestation of squeezeboxii were nowhere to be seen on our visit. Maybe a sighting would have caused too many questions to be asked?

Meridian clearly like to tease as the unravelling of the F80 showed.

Good point about 5v out. Hopefully the iPod interface can be used for more than just iPod?

IMHO

* Meridian should incorporate or shortly add streaming music from itunes and work with apple to support itunes.

* Ferrari should work with Meridian on a better sound system for the cars. What they should focus on is correction of the bass due to the engine noise. Dont get me wrong- the sound of a Ferrari engine is wonderful- but there might be times when it would be nice to quiet it down to hear the music, etc. If its switcable and given Ferraris increasing production this makes sense as its not just the hard core who will own these cars. Seeing the Meridian logo on the Ferrari radio and having good sound will reinforce the idea of...

* Ferrari should be selling the F80 at their dealers so when people bring their beautiful Cavallino in for service or more importantly when visiting the dealer to sample the latest and greatest they can see it and also buy it.

* and Ferrari + Meridian should make the Meridian automobile audio system work with the iPod...

* Perhaps a special Ferrari branded iPod that is exclusive to when one purchases a Ferrari...

* Id love to see Meridian and Apple do something but I dont think so given the close ties to Microsoft.

best regards,
Jerry

VK,

I don't disagree. The distraction with 'losing music, CD's being a far bigger catalogue', etc were just that IMO....distractions.

You may recall I raised the point that I am not interested at all in downloading music...and except for DSOTM DVD-A, I haven't done it. My server is currently at 10,500 tracks...all owned and in my posession on CD. CD's are so fantstically cheap now too.

I can't recall exactly what he said, but, I thought that the M chap behind the camera on the day (humble apolgies as I can't recall his name just now) was far more supportive of the direction the questions were really coming from.

Yes, it does feel a bit like we must be the stupid ones. But, clearly we're the most informed, intelligent and considered customer group out there ( laugh ). If we'd pushed and time had allowed, I'm sure we'd have seen a nod and a wink from Bob.

Here's hoping

Rgds,
Nick

So for those of us that were unable to attend Sacred Saturday, when will Meridian fully unveil the F80? As far as I can tell, the skirt is just up past the ankles.

IIRC they said 'March' but via a 'teaser' marketing campaign. Clearly it's working on you wink

Oh dear. Ferrari yellow, Ferrari logo, 'art deco' styling - it's a bit gauche for me.

Had it been packaged in a similar box to this, I might have been tempted:

I think it looks OK - the Art Deco aspect harks back to olde worlde wireless sets. I'm not so convinced by the Ferrari "tie-up". Can anyone cite another example of a well-known brand slapping another brand's logo on its product? Should we expect to see Maserati's trident on B&O's next boogie box?
