Hi Guys

Well, I think this one factor has made me more confident about the commercial chances of it succeeding. When the big supermarkets are giving over shelf space to this, I reckon it bodes well...Joe Sixpack is now getting it between the eyes!

Cheers

I think around two dozen? It was a noticeable full height display beside the normal DVDs. I actually squinted at it and thought "what are those funny boxes?"!

Walmart, the owner of Asda, stocked HD-DVDs from virtually day one in the US also - $5 cheaper than everywhere else at the time too.

If someone tries a UK disc on a US machine (MarkH, VK I'm looking at you two in particular) please let us know how it goes.

David.

Two dozen - not too bad for starters.

Big question is: will they still be on display in two years time?

In the meantime, it has to be advantage HD-DVD

The Target store here in Somerville MA USA are selling HD-DVD's for 19.99 and have a large display in the middle of the regular DVD's.
Most other places like Best Buy they are 25.99.

To early to say advantage to either side.

Here is a report saying that Blu-ray outsold HD DVD 2:1 for the first 2 weeks in January.

I think its not too much of a surprise that BD has higher numbers at the moment since Hd-DVD releases basically stopped before Christmas. They should pick up in the next few months .

Total sales of both formats still seem to smaller than they'd hoped for .
