I'm fairly confident Meridian would not waste time doing M-config as a web 2.0 app.
Operation of the system perhaps. M-Config that's just silly and I have an iPhone. Even if it was available I don't think I'd bother. How often do you go in M-Config? I'll go 6mos to a year without touching it. iPhone is for things you do often on the go.

well that's true - I'm just hoping for a web based version in general I guess (for Mac, Linux, etc.); Although I find myself wanting certain features brought out to real time control; One is lip sync; Not to mention the age old DSP mode random access selection.
I would do more with the system capabilities if they were more easily accessible as a general statement...

Yes, a Slimserver like model for control is not a bad idea.
There is nothing that prevents a thirdparty from doing this.
The Server could be anything that supports RS-232.

I agree that Meridian should get some more prominent retail placement. B&O are really moving on this front. Not so sure I'd want mconfig or even m remote in the iPhone - but that's just me. Btw- I wrote this on my iPhone!

Getting MConfig to run in a browser is one thing, but getting the settings into the processor is another kettle of fish. I don't think I've seen any standard JScript RS232 libraries, and the iPhone doesn't have an RS232 port or a way to install USB->RS232 drivers.
If they were going to spend the time/money to do this, I would have thought they'd have done it years ago when most PocketPCs had RS232 ports - the code would have been simpler to port.

You don't need RS-232 on an iPhone or in JavaScript or anything like that. You take your PC that has an RS-232 port (or USB) and write a webserver for it that controlls the Meridian via RS-232. Then you browse to that server from Any Client (iPhone, PC, Mac, Laptop). This is a similar model SlimServer uses. I can CONTROL my SqueezeBox and the software that feeds it and nothing special has to be on the iPhone or and other browser client.

Of course, but for MConfig this is still over blown if you need a computer connected to the processor still. If a SOAP version of one of those Lantronics devices existed, then maybe (though it's still additional expense for not much gain on Meridian's end).

I can think of 2 reasons. One is just a convenience to be in the seating location to hear changes performed in the configuration. A second would be to make MRC changes while sitting in the sweet spot. Of a course a laptop would work just as well with a long serial chord.
Many of have a computer already connected for serving A/V to the system; With this, I would love to sit in my sweet spot and play with M-Config / MRC using my wireless laptop...
Although, I agree with your point's premise - It really is just a convenience when it boils down to it. Never-the-less, a convenient tool gets used more often and more experimentally than otherwise -

I believe iPhone has mini toslink. But because of the recess I'm not sure if any mini toslink to standard toslink adapters will fit. Does anyone know of mini to standard toslink cable or adapter that will fit iPhone? I know analog adapters exist due to recess. Does anyone know if the docking connector also supports digital SPDIF? Can it support true 44.1Khz CD or does it upsample to 48Khz? Here is an example one for iPod, but no way that will fit (2nd photo down). http://creativemac.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=47126
