I'll send it off to Bob and see if he can answer it directly. If so, I'll integrate it into the post.
My apologies; I was cutting/pasting together the info in the press room at CES and I missed it.

The Rock anyone? Are they even in business anymore? They are such a minor player in the industry that I'm not surprised that Bob doesn't know them by name. Name dropping is much better if you pick a company like Lexicon which has had trade-in offers in the past.
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv Should be a quick check to see who they might be however; I take your point on Lexicon though - you're right, that's a better example...
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ question: safe volume feature... answer: Can you suggest a safe volume? well, if one doesn't come to mind, how about 0; or just let the user select it.. I do this now automatically on shutdown via programmable remote with 30 volume downs, no-matter what it was while listening. The point of the question is that the concept of "safe" is highly subjective and the powerup source can be variable... Is it 75, 65, 30? Yes a user selectable power-up volume would be much better. Even that won't be perfect. vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv It's a small feature, but I'm calling you guys out on this because it's a point that goes beyond the feature itself I think...although I'll keep my rant localized to this feature...
Yes - I think that was the cheekiness of Bob's response - that there isn't a perfect setting;
Have to say - does anybody have a powerup source that is too loud (earsplitting) at 30? I've had lots of sources into M- gear over the last 10 years - never had a source too loud at 50 even... OK not perfect because there might be one out there;
A user selectable would take care of it since we obviously do that satisfactorily now by making the imperfect adjustments manually. Since the goal is to prevent ear-shock on turn-on at the next listening, anything in a huge range is perfectly fine.
The goal isn't to come up at the perfect volume (this isn't possible since even the same source may be different depending on what's in it!). The mission to reduce to a non-shocking range;
I guess for me, the bottom line frustration on this one is, why do we need to explain all of this - don't Bob and others have this same experience on their own systems? wives? or don't they think others do? Do they not turn down their systems to a 'guessed' (i.e. imperfect) volume for next turn-on; Let's try this: No matter what the source, 30 or 40 is more perfecter than 80 or 90, no?
If the powers at be can't somehow relate or conjure up a satisfactory setting, then just give us the imperfect user selectable option and we'll take care of it. Either a shut-down down volume or start-up volume. I can scarcely believe it takes this much explaination... We've probably spent more time and money talking about it than it would take to just implement it - just my guess of course.
Now, apparantly to get it on the feature list, we're asked to come up with a suggested perfect volume; Any volume less than 50 (did I say that loud enough? ) or best, a user selectable will be a PERFECTLY acceptable solution IMHO
OK - off the box - sorry... ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Also, the 'finding lip sync in Mconfig' answer: 'well, you found it'; well, yes; but it took much longer than a Google for TAW.. --actually that one did give me a chuckle--- I understand their PoV. It is in the most logical place to be located from their PoV. Can you make a compelling case for it to go someplace else that is more intuitive? vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv yes - I don't doubt that it's in the most logical place for the architecture design; In fact, it's very cool, it can be done on a per-preset basis like that.
I think I might suggest though, the issue is not one of the most logical place to put it, but documentation and/or indexable interface of same...
I agree with VK as well - there were some good answers; although Mark is dead-right on the HDMI thing.. It's no longer a question of if, just when...; A bit more forthcoming on this issue would help M- immensely IMO...
thanks again for all your efforts JK; It may not seem like work to you, but the time you spend on it is very much appreciated...

Cheers, OK, don't forget to include my explanation - they didn't understand my question last year... ...which is kind of strange. My wish to have both my subs playing the same source audio (which will then be room-corrected) for better acoustic in my "problem room" is one of the easier acoustic principles. And it's very similar to the Meridian standpoint that you should not have different crossovers for the individual front/rear/center speakers...

tommy: Except that you don't have two identical subs playing back the content All of the acoustics studies assume you've gone to the "trouble" of matching subs CHeers,

With respect to TAW; there's not a way to research "live" on the show floor. I briefly mentioned who they are etc.
Cheers,

But with the help of he Velodyne EQ and Meridian MRC you can come way longer than with two random, non-matching subs - if they play the same source content. And it must be one of the easier things to implement in the G68 software...

Re Q24 and Q30
Both are possible, one isn't on the wishlist.
Who can I ask now about getting it on the wishlist ? Maybe I should set up a HH poll to test how many would like it changed ....
Any ideas ?

2. The ability to eliminate surround options for a given input. I don't need the choice of TV Logic, for ex., when playing a CD. Currently one has to toggle through the entire list of options for a given input when only a few might be relevant.
Meridian answer: This option is still on the feature wish list. Meridian's answer is a paste from two years ago. I'll keep holding my breath on adding sensible functionality in the present. Good thing we live in the future. As a Blu-ray/HD-DVD waiter, I'm OK w/no HDMI solution now. And I've had no doubt that M will accomodate HDMI in some way -- what choice do they have? What's the interpretation/speculation on the G68? Does eight channel capablity indicate a solution in the pipeline?

For me it means that (i) I'm unlikely to have to junk my G68 in order to deal with 7.1 input channels and (ii) if political HDCP issues can be overcome, then an external box that will accept HDMI and output 8-channel MHR to an existing processor is one of several possible solutions.
