DVD Layer Change Removal?
AS the G9x cache content whilst decoding the video - and the sector location for the layer break / change is easy to identify, do the DVD specifications allow the Meridian software to identify these sectors and eliminate the 'pause' whilst the layer transition occurs?

THe Cache is probably why the pause is so small anyway. All players suffer from this, The change takes time to happen. I believe Meridian are class leaders in this regard. Cheers, Chris

Yes, but layer change can be made seamless and ours are high end products.

I'll second Curly's request about the G91 auto-switching to DVD; and the earlier one about being able to remove unwanted surround modes for any given source.
Regards

We are not at seamless yet. To get that you would need significant delay (in Digital terms)throughout the disc which I am sure would cause alot of other troubles. I for one can live with a split second blip. Much better than a projectionist comming in and changing film reel whilst someone sells me ice cream. lol Cheers, Chris

To be fair the Oppo and 800 are identical as to the layer change gap. They aren't 100% seamless, but very close.

My G91 isn't seemless and the transition on the same disk can seem to occur at a different place each time I watch the disk.
If s/w like CloneDVD can do it easily, then the M firmware should be able to simply identify the sector and 'patch' together the frames either side of the layer break.
I am not convinced it is as smooth as it could be - by far, and would appreciate the question being raised - but I appreciate that the DVD forum rules may mean that members cannot do this kind of thing.

I give up on >8 channels and more subwoofers.
But i would like to know as well what we are going to get for the 861 in relation to HDMI for multi channel audio.
Will there be a HDMI 1.2 input card to input multi channel PCM just like a IA45 is an additional input ?
Will there be a 861v5 with HDMI 1.3 and upgraded DSP's to handle the advanced audio codecs ?

I figure there is no harm in explicitly asking for this. JK - this is a long "question", but I felt it important to give a reasonable amount of context.
Please would Meridian consider publishing a coarse roadmap or statement of intent (nothing more) for some or all of it's products and technology? e.g. 861, handling of LPCM over HDMI, handling new HD audio bitstreams, >8 channel support, G46, firmware upgrades, etc.
There is a big difference in revealing information that would be commercially sensitive and publishing information that would stem the obvious increase in frustration and annoyance that many on this forum are clearly experiencing.
Meridian has to realize that by not doing so is generating ill feeling within its most die hard customer group who have invested much in the Meridian brand. Not revealing even rough intended timescales also suggests that Meridian, as an organization, is not capable of holding to any published release schedule.
I am sure that I'm not the only hiker for whom the lack of information from the Mothership is holding up other, non-Meridian purchases. For instance, in the specific case of the HDMI solution, I can understand if Meridian cannot commit to a date (for political, technological and hardware availability reasons), but can they reveal any information about their strategy that would help customers plan future purchases? e.g. Do they need to get hold of the HDMI stream first before anyone else modifies it (e.g. audio delay)? A white paper in this area would be most useful.
