Hi all,
Does anyone know if the 598 firmware upgrade to V1.89 has any affect on the ability to bypass the Region Code? I'd like the performance improvements however my favorite film is Australian and will never be available in other regions. It plays fine now (thanks to info found on this site) and I just want to make certain that it will continue to do so before I upgrade. Thanks for the help.

Terry,
Firmware updates may re-set your region coding IIRC. However, the region code 'management' can be quickly applied whilst you are connected anyway.
Therefore...no issue.

Looks like new MConfig available.
It may only have updates to support G95.

800v272_2.34 - This version adds 1080p support to my 800D. I have not found any problems so far.
There is one new "Video control" (RED on MSR). Video on The “X=,Y=” control is gone. This is not good as I need this to position Letterbox images correctly. Does anyone know what this new "Video" control does?

Where did you get the 800 firmware? From your dealer?

I got it from M (UK), but your dealer should be able to help you.

Added report of shipping G91 v2.47 firmware. It's now been well over 2 months, wonder when this (or a an even more recent fw) will be put up on the site.

Regarding the 596 DVD upgrade.
I have been trying to upgrade to v.1.89 with no success. I used the Meridian Flash Upload program.
I tried a USB to RS232 null modem cable to connect with my laptop running win XP. It keeps asking for a hard reset.
Then I used another windows XP laptop with a serial port and use a serial cable instead. The same problem.
I disable my firewall and check the com 1 port. No success again.
Can anyone please help me to go around this problem.
Thank you in advance

Have you got basic comms to the 596 - ie can you use hyperterm and get a connection ? You may try searching about making 596/8 region free and see if you can get the factory password to respond.
When you say "I tried a USB to RS232 null modem cable" do you mean a USB to serial converter and a RS232 null modem cable? Likewise, when you say "serial port and use a serial cable instead" do you mean a null modem cable rather than a standard serial cable.
The null modem cable is a requirement with both USB/Serial converters and standard RS232 ports.

Thank you Ian for your quick response
I am not sure what hyper term connection means!
I tried a USB to Serial RS-232 DB-9 cable with a male to female adapter and a DB9 female to female serial cable. I am not sure if this is a “modem cable” or standard serial cable.
I realise there is a compatibility issue here.
