Nick,
They know about it and some very slight , very occasional picture judder ( possibly buffer related ? ) in movies. I'm on V1.74 so I'm hoping that it is software related. I wonder if anyone else is using that version and has noticed that effect ?? it is really irritating , especially on something like Porcupine tree where tracks are supposed to merge together frown

Hope they get it right for Christmas .

I've never had any premature DVD-A track stopping with my 598. Old or new firmware. I had navigation issues with the current release but the latest beta has solved it for me. My 598 has been pretty stable too.

Interesting, my navigation issues were mostly solved by this release but unfortunately replaced by this new problem frown

I hope at least that it doesn't turn out to be a hardware problem.

It's an odd one. It's hard to imagine what type of hardware fault it could be as it would play or not the whole track.

When I was putting in 1.73 to fix a previous issue (which was eventually resolved with a drive swap), there were a whole bunch of files e.g. 598.mfp, d598-1_01.mfu, dspe0010.mfu, s598-1_02.mfu. There are also 598-bios, 598_core and 598_data files.

My Sunday guess is that it may be a file combination issue.

Nick,
Odd indeed. The unit was over with M during the summer and they put 1.74 in so I would hope ' bad file combination' wouldn't be likely .

I'm hoping its just some FIFO-type problem with the video and maybe software-solvable problem with the audio cut-off on DVD-A. The end of TH's 'Road to Nowhere' ends very abruptly ... confused

I actually have the 598 (with the 568.2 mm - Smartlink) and am still on the original 1.02 firmware for my 598 (as per Meridian's website). Looks like I'm a bit behind the times!! Where do I get a copy of all these new firmware releases (beta I'm assuming? v1.73/1.74) that you guys are refering to?) What kind of improvements/enhancements have been added?

Thanks!

Andrew

I've tried upgrading from V.3 (firmware 2.51) to V.4 (firmware 2.67) without upgrading hardware.

I was not satisfied with the result and downgraded to V.3 (firmware 2.51) without any problems.

My problems turned out to be hardware not firmware and I sent my 800 back to M for a fix.

Andrew,

Meridian will only give you a beta release if you have a problem. I had navigation issues when I changed between DVD-A and CD's and DVD's. This required rebooting quite often. Some times my 598 would not turn on and would require a reboot. IR commands from other equipment I have would hang up my 598.

Finally M gave me the beta. It has solved most of my problems. My 598 is much more stable since the upgrade.

Changing sources on a G91 to DVD-A locks it up all the time.

Anyone thought of modifying the firmware independently of Meridian ? Many benefits doing it yourself !
