M,
Thanks for the tip. Will check it out. Don't know if you like him solo, but, Byrne's "Grown Backwards" CD is quite a gem.

cheers

The HDMax 421 allows the G9x to have a extended set of HDMI Inputs(x4)/Output(x1) and to increase the video switcher abilities but in order to that you need the latest communication protocol between the player and the HDMax so they know what to do together.
That's a cheap way to add HDMI video switching to existing users and help no Meridian users as well.
Just a guess...

N,
Thanks for that , I may invest in that for her Christmas prezzy ( to go with The Brick) as we missed a performance of his over here some time ago and she was gutted about it.

Frank, you cannot updgrade V4.0 Firmware in that speaker. The 24/96 Hardware Upgrade enables V5.0 Firmware and from there it is end user upgradable.

Hum...The DSP5000C has a 96/24 sticker on the back and has a serial number of 202356. I've be running it as a 96/24 DSP and haven't had any issues.

That's really strange, you sure you're looking at the correct version?

I was shipped a 5000C once that was suspected to not be 24/96 even though it was sold as such. Called Meridian and all they did was look at the version. If it was older than V5.0 then it was a non flashable version that was with non 24/96 speakers. I might be off on my versions, but I thought it was anything older than V5.0. It also refused to flash.

I would flash all your speakers to latest firmware and give the 5000C a try. If it won't flash that confirms it. If it flashes great.

I e-mailed Meridian a question concerning the firmware on my DSP5000C last night before retiring and a response from Dave Hall was waiting for me when I woke up and checked my e-mail this morning. I don't know of any other company with such great customer service!

The good news is:

"Thank you for the email. The software version of your speaker (4.003) confirms that this unit is 24/96 specification. The difference in the software is for MSR+ compatibility and I believe your speakers to be 7 segment not dot matrix displays. It is possible to have new software downloaded to your speakers and you use the same procedure as downloading to our processors/players."

On another note, will Meridian support send out beta firmware just because you want the latest available?

Hi i have to add that 1.81 for G9x corrects a bug regarding PAL 1080i output from the scaler, it's now ok.
And the auto mode for detecting EDID is improved before 1.81 it simply did not work with a Sony HS50, now it's working but i still prefer to use 720p all the time.

Cheers

Apparently no they won't. I e-mailed and was told it would be available in due course. So I'm left with DVD-A tracks which end prematurely frown

I have always found Merdian Service to be excellent and often go well beyond the call of duty but sometimes I wonder whether the code writers actually trial these things themselves before (even beta ) releasing them ?

I think 861 V4 was released officially with 'Diagnostics' display left on after typing and the current ( ? wink ) V4.2 sets itself to Record out = Copy Mute rather than Copy Source.

Meanwhile my wait to listen properly to Talking Heads Brick Box continues.......

P.S. I guess my main point is that even a beta release couldn't still be as poor as my current one for 598 V1.74

Manus,

I don't know if your premature track end issue is going to be software related. I haven't experienced that issue at all (at least upto 1.73). It might be worth double checking with M as if you do get a new version that has nothing in it that is designed to fix that issue anyway, then, you could be heading for frustration
street.

cheers

Nick
