I second audioaero's post - DSOTM in MLP 24/96 is great. I believe I read somewhere that it was taken from the original quadrophonic master tapes.
If anyone needs a copy burning, I'd be happy to do so.
Cheers, Ian

George,
That's the one - thanks for finding it. I didn't (as I should have) try a search. I just went down the 2 page listing of 2006 postings and didn't find it.
If you feel it's appropriate to just append this to the end of the earlier posting, please feel free to do so. I think there are some great suggestions and I'm looking forward to expanding my collection.
Cheers, Ian

Bob Dylan's Modern Times, as well as being an absolutely marvellous album, sounds absolutely brilliant in Trified.

The Clapton/BB King DVD-A "Riding With the King" is really great. Both musically and sonically.

I have finally acquired the DVDA version of Carlos Kleiber and the VPO playing Beethoven 5 and 7, remastered by Deutsche Grammophon in 24/96. The CD version was good, but the remastered sound is even better, even in stereo, and especially when played really loud.
Classical music buffs will know that this is widely considered to be the definitive Beethoven 5, and some say Kleiber's account of 7 is even better. For anyone tempted to dip into classical music, Beethoven's 5th is great, majestic and mighty, but not at all 'difficult' to listen to. Each movement leads naturally and seamlessly into the next, so it is not a symphony in which you would play just the slow movement, etc. Play all or nothing. But I confess that I have sometimes played just the allegretto (or just the finale) from No 7 (tsk!) I found the DVDA via Amazon, but the CD can be found in almost every good record shop (if it has a classical section)and in any good record library.

I also think the new Dylan album is a cracker in many ways.

On the DVD-A front, I've really been enjoying Robert Cray's "Time will Tell" and Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells". I know the latter received so-so reviews, and I must say that I prefer the hi-rez 2 channel mix to the 5.1 mix.
In standard CD form, I also picked up a couple of Dave's True Story's latest albums. I have been a big fan of their 2 early Chesky recordings (Sex without Bodies and Unauthorized) - both great recordings and suitably satirical for a smile or two. The two recent acquisitions are Nature and Simple Twist of Fate (the latter being Dylan covers). Both have great songcraft and form and are good recordings, if not quite up to the standard of the earlier Chesky recordings. I just wish I lived near NYC to see these guys live on a regular basis.
Cheers, Ian

The following are highly recommeded DVD Audio discs with incredible surround audio mixes:
Tommy - The Who
The Marvin Gaye Collection
LA Woman - The Doors
Sea Change - Beck
Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys
It felt as if I had never heard these albums before, the audio was that dramaticly improved.
