I am very much looking forward to Brotherhood of the Wolf (Monica Belluci!) in HD but am a bit worried about where the subtitles will appear in my constant height system...

The latest wave of Canal releases have the HDi option to reposition the subtitles don`t they? It was unfortunate to read that Letters from Iwo Jima does not put its subtitles within the film frame.

It was unfortunate to read that Letters from Iwo Jima does not put its subtitles within the film frame. You can both reposition the titles, and change their size, using the C and D buttons on the remote. The subtitles can be moved completely into or out of the film frame. The HD DVD release of Le Pacte des Loups/Brotherhood is the extended cut, running 150 minutes + some seconds including the end titles (I haven't actually compared it scene by scene to the extended version DVD yet, but the extra scenes mentioned @imdb are all present). Terminator 2 has forced French subtitles for the Theatrical Cut, and optional/removable French or Dutch for the Director's Cut.

That's great news, but means I'll need to first reprogram my Crestron to support the C/D buttons...

I try to keep my interfaces as generic as possible, which means that my 'control' page is generic for all my transports and the key presses are then redirected to the correct code depending on which source is selected. The C/D buttons mean I'll need to break this genericness and add buttons which only appear for HD-DVD (and perhaps Blu-Ray which has similar buttons) but not DVD or DVHS... Is this a reason to start going of HD? I guess not Mark

Mark, perhaps you could name the buttons something like SP1 and SP2 for "specialty" and this way they could appear on each page but do different things for different devices. Or P1, P2, for "programed"... just a thought.
Now will someone explain why my XA1 does not want to recognize Video Essentials HD_ it says theres no disc when there is! grrrrrr

Jerry, I will figure something out. I actually enjoy the challenge of programming my Crestron (and dare I say it, I am actually pretty good at it now, but I do get rusty in the months between each programming update), so it will be fun - I just need to find the time!

Jerry, HERE is your answer. "First Generation Toshiba HD DVD players, the HD-A1 and HD-XA1, should be at software version 2.0. "

Thanks guys- I will check tonight. I did recently do a software update and I believe I am at 2.2 but maybe I am not. Whats strange is that it did work just fine before and there were no software updates that I did (that I am aware of- maybe the player did it to itself?!)
best regards, Jerry

My Digital Essentials crashed my HD-XE1 at the menu stage and took several reboots to remove the frozen image from my Lcd screen . I also have the latest firmware ( 1.5 ) I also have several duplicate discs if newly Hd-DVD enabled Hikers are interested ? They are 'Backdraft' and the 3 'Fast and the Furious' films ( yep , I know I was never like that either when I was 20 lol ~M~
Mostly harmless. Comfortably numb.
