Kinda telling; Disney selling millions of 'low rez' movies on iTunes for those for which this convienece is of priority; and selling the top HD disk in Pirates at the same time... All the differences assiged, I'd have to say Disney is doing themselves (and stock holders) well by providing to a wider and wider marketplace....

I've streamed 720P level resolution using my AppleTV (content not purchased on iTunes), and it looks great; Hopefully iTunes will incorporate this resolution as some point - another iTunes movie content limitation right now is 2 channel audio - another hope to imporove....

guess were getting a little OT here - good discussion though guys; appreciate the varied opinions and thoughts. I hope someday soon all content will just be HD, hi rez audio, and convienent to buy and manage... Oh yea and great stories!!

If its not already been spotted, this thread on AVforums is ripe for an AngryTheClown contribution.

Ian ,
Im going to my room and Im going to listen to Porcupine Tree on DVD-A as loud as I can bear it . And when I come out , I will have no memory of that thread left at all wink

I think the bad weather this weekend has liberated all the 'narkies' out there to vent their spleens and Im going to try to keep out of it! There's even a ' which Lossless is better ; Dolby or dts thread going on again eek This was launched in response to dts 'demoing' MA recently and introducing 'Dialogue Normalization' .

I'm going now , and I could be some time ..................... laugh ...........................

Clearly Apple lossless is better because Steve Jobs would say so! laugh

Btw- real dialogue normilization would mean everyone settling on a single standard that could be high rez and scaleable down to low res for convenience.

Ken, well said- kudos to Disney and the other studios for working it at both ends.

best regards,
Jerry

Too much of a headache to bother contributing I think... big reason I don't hold an account at the AVS Forum. I'd only call many people something nasty and get myself banned moments after singing up. smile My AVForums account is really for random questioning of products, other than that I try to stay out of things like that. It only makes me angry otherwise.

Incidentally, I`d like to thank George for allowing the HD discussion threads here to get so big, and to shoot off on the occasional tangent. It`s just nice to have a civilised place to discuss such things even if this really isn`t technically the forum to be doing it. Here at least, we`re amongst friends.

It is great that we can debate , and even disagree on these types of topics without resorting to name calling or abusive behaviour .

Its been a Bank Holiday over here with bad weather and Ive had a bit of a movie fest which included King Kong , Batman Begins , Constantine , Trading Places , Midnight Run ,World's greatest Indian , The Adventures of Robin Hood , The Searchers and 2 episodes of Planet Earth !

Politics apart , its just ludicrous IMO , for anyone to give 'advice ' to prospective purchasers
to give the Hd-DVD format a wide birth on 'moral' grounds .

Pandora's Box has been opened and Im afraid we all will end up paying some of the cost of that because of this silly format war. But at least some of the HD pickings are fabulous viewing and listening experiences.

Looking at your list, I think The Searchers is my favorite and just stunning in HD... next would be the Planet Earth series.. Nice Holiday!!

Manus! My god did you even get out of bed today? That was a heck of a movie fest. You must have a trained dog to get you a beer when you want one! smile

Ron , it was a 3 day weekend ! I even had to cook as well !! Unfortunately my dog is 14 years old and would probably drink the beer so I fetched it myself wink Havent slept as well in years smile

Hope M never bring out their own brand of wine designed to improve human hearing at the highest frequencies in over 40s, I wouldn't be able to afford any discs at all laugh
