Jerry, ok, the next thing for you to do is calibrate to the 701 standard and see what happens, but before you do make a note of your current settings so you can revert if necessary. Then with the 701 colour test pattern up, and while looking via the blue filter, adjust your colour setting so that all the blue boxes look the same as the background and once you've done that you may find your red and green are correct also - if so, you actually have rec. 701 ok. Things could be wrong right now simply because your calibration was done to the SD colourspace...
Fingers crossed.

Mark, are you saying to simply adjust the color setting- not anything like RGB gain/cut?

Just the colour setting, Jerry. RGB gain/cut is only for greyscale adjustment, not colour.

Right. I did know that but I was getting confused because I mixed up greyscale and colorspace in my head.
So I calibrated it to blue. My color was set to 0. The CII I believe can go -100 -0- to +100. I found the blue in the 709 equalized at a +7 color setting.
I looked at the Red and it was close but to get it to equalize with red I had to go to +14.
I brought it back to the +7 and looked at the Green. Here the green was oversaturated so I began to back the color off- it did not equalize until I was around -25.
I will go back and now look at it with the 601 space because I did not do that. I have a feeling this will be closer...... more later...
best regards, Jerry

Jerry, you had to do what I had to do in order to force 701, which was increase red and significantly lower green. It looks like you're definately running 609 :-( And for now you should stick with that as the gross changes for 701 will introduce other errors. Now, there may be things you can do with your Crystallio or projector to resolve the colourspace issues but I don't know either device so cannot advise.
Cheers,
Mark

Mark- yep that is what it seems like to me. Oh well. Like you said you wouldn't have known it otherwise. I am going to leave well enough alone for now. Perhaps in the future I will move to a new Lumagen or follow up crystalio product and we will see what happens then...

I find this very frustrating. It should be a non-issue - perhaps it's an early bump on the road to HD and will be long forgotten soon enough. Does the Crystalio give you any control over what you can request from the source player - eg can you force YCbCr from the player instead of RGB? Might be worth playing with those settings to see if you can resolve the problem.

Shame. One of the things the Radiance advertises is control over incoming/outgoing colourspaces. I hope this will provide a band-aid until the issues are sorted out.
Watched School For Scoundrels tonight - funny film in a dry sort of way - critics hated it but I found it laugh out loud funny in places. Disappointing MPEG4 transfer though, with digital enhancement visible in many scenes and a couple of fade-in scenes with visible banding.

http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/9300/kubrickhdyt6.jpg Bugger. They're really trying my patience now with these formats. Out of pure curiosity I've been streaming some HD content to my 360 to see how it holds up when down converted (they added h.264 1080p support to the console last week so I've tried a bunch of trailers from apple and some hd DVD trailers in wmv format). The result is, obviously, much like a DVD, but void of noticeable compression artefacts. Rather nice

re: Kubrick, Exciting news indeed, but I sincerely hope they do a better job on these releases than we've seen on their DVD counterparts and indeed on Spartacus HD.

Criterion have the good HD master for Spartacus so there's always hope of it getting a better release in future.
I'd be interested if Warner have gone and created a new master for Full Metal Jacket to (re)release alongside the other titles given the existing release is marred with DNR.
I'm a tad miffed Lolita and Barry Lyndon are not coming out as well.
