I'd be very interested to hear your results.

I've been investigating this for a couple of days now and think that the problem actually lies with the Lumagen or even my projector and not necessarily the sources as initially suspected. I've put test patterns from 2 HD-DVD players, a Blu-Ray player and a test pattern generator through my system and they all show the same problem...

Mark,
I just tried it and I think I am in 601 land frown My setup is HDDVD 1080i over HDMI to Crystalio II which outputs HDMI to a DVI adaptor on the Runco vx 55 projector.

Looking at the colors and which decoder looks best here are the results:
Red: 601 matches, 709 looks a little too dark

Green: 601 looks a little too dark, 709 looks considerably brighter

Blue: 601 matches, 709 looks a little too dark.

So with the R & B channels I get a match to 601 and the green is close. With the 709 I am off with the R&B and I am off with the green.

Like you said- if I never looked at this pattern I would think my setup looks stunning. I just watched Donnie Brasco (Bluray) and it looks wonderful- a bit dated but frankly the effect is very very convincing the kind of solid, vivid but not video game vivid you get with film. Glad you put me on the next gen train.

best regards,
Jerry
