Jerry,
I've been running 48Hz for a few years now - it was a goal for me when running CRT that Lumagen helped me achieve (the goal there was twofold - one, emulate the theatrical process of 48 frames to remove motion stutter and two, lower the bandwidth requirement to the CRT which delivers a sharper image, particularly with HD material). I tried other processors but theirs was the first to get it right in the mass market. When demoing projectors for my new room I had an eye on whether they could support 48Hz... some couldn't. Like you, I couldn't go back to 60Hz now.
As for SD - I could happily watch an SD disc, if, and only if, there wasn't an HD version available. If it's a good film I'll enjoy it regardless of the format - it's the same with music - if something is only available on a legacy format it doesn't stop the music being enjoyable (you just shut of that voice in the back of your head wondering how much better it could be on the best format). Right now I still have too many HD discs to watch (no fence hugging here, boys!) so don't have to look to my SD collection for something to watch just yet.
Cheers,
Mark

Nothing much we didn`t know about the M player from CES really so I wouldn`t worry. I`m assuming they will wait and see how the next twelve months go for the format before even thinking about releasing a product, unless it is truly so cheap to implement in hardware that it is of little risk to them.

Jerry - Thanks for that LG review info; That's exactly the conclusion I reached - need to wait for 2.0; I've heard rumors it's in the works already and fixes the HD interactive issues, HDMI 1.3 and audio support issues.
I think I'll end up with this one unless it looks like BD will take the day - in which case I'll go for the 2.0 Elite player. Until then I'm enjoying the disks I have and may still pick up a PS3 as an interim measure for BD.
I agree with you and Mark - I can still watch a good SD source scaled up via the Lumagen.... but it does get harder as more HD choices become available...
no fence sitting here either thanks to Mark - I think BD has the best chance to win this thing, so I limit HD-DVD to Universal and go BD with everything else; already have a bunch of BD disks in the rack, just waiting on the right player.... I don't see how I'm going to resist plunking down for PS3 while waiting for 'final' player solution... but so far I'm keeping busy enough (my Apple TV shows up friday to keep me diverted a while longer...)
thanks again- ken

That's consistent with what Bob Stuart said about the HDMI 1.3 standard not having been locked down. However, the HDMI output from such a player is but one part... I have this nagging suspicion that the Meridian HDMI input solution will be tied up with their HD DVD player. It would actually be an elegant and logical design decision (perform the HDMI switching and bitstream decoding in the player), but one that would alienate G processor owners that don't have an M player (I think an DVD --> HD DVD upgrade program is likely). However, I doubt I'll ever be buying a Meridian source component again. They are simply too expensive and too quirky for my liking and represent very poor value for money considering what else is out there. If they were technically beyond reproach, then maybe, but they're not.

Ken, I think you should get a BR player, PS3 or otherwise and get a few movies: The Prestige because its a great movie with really great video (though it has a few soft moments) and the new Bond- Casino Royale because its also a great movie and the transfer is a solid 8-9/10. It should be a tiny bit better but alas, what can you do. And Kingdom of Heaven, the directors cut really helps the movie and the transfer is terrific. I think you would like it. The PS3 might be the easiest thing to get. If you like games you can play it and if you dont and a universal comes out in the future, you can sell/ give it to someone who wants a PS3- perhaps a family member who needs corrupting... Btw- change gears back to HDDVD. What in the world is going on with Digital Video Essentials?! http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/news...ssentials_Back_in_Release_Date_Limbo/530 If anyone here can make a test disc on either format, the tests could be fairly basic, I think it would sell. You wouldnt have to compete with the production values of DVE or AVIA, etc. Just get the test material out there. This is near criminal in my book! best regards, Jerry

AVIA II will be out before DVE I reckon. And AVIA (particularly AVIA Pro) was always better anyway, IMO. I almost had buyers remorse when I upgraded to the Accupel 3000 ( http://www.accupel.com/) last year when I heard that DVD HD was on the way, but no regrets now Mark
