What do we here think of MPEG4 so far as compared to VC-1? The little I've read is that they have not really optimized the MPEG4 stuff yet. Right now, when I see VC-1 I do not worry about image quality of the format like I do with MPEG2. Btw- did I read correctly that there is the CUE in VC-1? From my experience so far I don't believe it.

best regards,
Jerry

Actually, I posted in the wrong thread laugh Oopsie. But yes, Daniel is right - this is a Blu-Ray only title.

No CUE in VC1 itself, no. I just recall Stacey Spears and/or Kriss Deering saying the first gen Toshiba's had CUE for HD content in the decoders, but not SD.

As for VC1, I've yet to come into contact with anyone who's had experience with encoders for MPEG4 and VC1 who admits to prefering MPEG4 at the moment. The toolset for VC1 just seems phenomenally advanced.

Same here Daniel; talked with some production guys at Disney, Joe Kane questions, and some other less notiable sources - all say the end results with VC1 and MPEG4 are very close in quality (each better than the other for certain scenes), but the AV1 tool set is more developed.

Recently, some posts from professional encoders though have noted the newest MPEG4 tool set doing a lot catchup; Msoft did a great job with AV1 development apparently, but having 2 good ones around is always good I think...

Keep in mind those Lionsgate/ Studio Canal titles are available in HD DVD now from Xploited Cinema and/ or Amazons international sites.

Thanks for the info- so the Tosh XA-1 has a CUE with its decoding of VC-1? I have not seen anything that would give it away and I have been looking!

Jerry

Jerry - do you have a video processing solution that masks it? I was hoping to avoid an external VP and am hoping that the Gennum in the JVC HD1 will do the job.

Any links confirming this (CUE bug with HD) - I've not seen it and I have the CUE processing in my Lumagen turned OFF for HD sources.

Cheers,

Mark
